Primary 7 have been reading a novel called, ‘Natasha’s Will’ which is set during the Russian Revolution. We carried out some research on this in class and wrote about it.
In RME, we are learning about sectarianism and discrimination. We are exploring this using the book, ‘Divided City.’ We also focused this week on how the author uses techniques to build tension.
We have started our new topic which is all about the Caribbean. We discussed what we would like to learn so our teacher can plan lessons around this. We carried out some research in class and are looking forward to learning more facts.
Homework February
Our week 1st February – 6th February
This week was so cool as we had lots of exiting learning. On Monday there was something new on the board. It was Body image. We soon learned that this was all about air brushing, commonly known as photo shopping. We looked at a magazine to find some images that have been photo shopped. We found out that people don’t like their body so they change their body to make them have 12 packs and appear skinnier. All these photos make people downcast and feel like they should be skinny. Then was the fun part. We got to photo shop each other. It was very fun.
Tuesday was the day of our school trip to Kelvingrove museum. We first went down stairs to do a sketch book with a lady called Lesley. We went into the Charles Rennie Mcintosh exibit and we sketched some pictures of roses and butter flies. After this we made sketch book cover . Then we had our lunch . After that we were split into groups we had a quiz sheet and went to the gift shop .
Today- Friday is Scottish afternoon. We have been practicing our songs for a whole month! Now after rehearsals and rehearsals we are now ready for our big show. Wish us luck!!!
Our week, 26 – 31.1.15
Primary 6/7 have had another busy and excited week. We all enjoyed a Burn’s Supper on Monday, where we tasted sone tasty Scottish food, haggis, needs & tatties. It was fabulous, we invited Primary 7s through to our class to enjoy our Burn’s Supper. Yasmin & Stephanie did the address to the haggis & then we all tucked in.
Our team came 5th at the Euro quiz, which is really well done, as the quiz is very difficult & they all put lots of time & effort into studying for it. Well done to Ella, Ross & Kerry, you did us all proud.
We are making guides for finding the area of triangles & we’ve been working really hard at our division again this week. We’re all starting to get the hang of it all now.
We had the best PE ever on Thursday, when we P7s went to do gymnastics in the High School, Primary 6s (and Sam) went out into the playground & played in the snow. We split into 2 teams, girls vs boys & competed to build the tallest snowman. The boys snowman was around 1M 3cm, whilst the girls used their imaginations and created a fabulous ice castle, measuring 1M. We all had the best fun & it was brilliant.
News from Primary 6/7
IMG_0936 IMG_0935This week we have been very busy. In maths, we have been looking at area and division. We have been doing right angle triangles, and then finding the area. In order to do this, you multiply the height by the length. You find that answer and then you divide it by 2 so that you have found the area of a triangle.
Primary 6 also went to the Maths Quiz in the high school. Our 2 teams did very well and we came third, well done to everyone who participated.
We have also been doing division to 1 or 2 decimal points, it is quite tricky, but we are beginning to get the hang of it now.
In literacy we have been looking at fictional narrative poems, the structure and characterization of them. So far we have been enjoying this & can’t wait to do more. In taught writing we have written our very own Greyfriar’s Bobby poem, using rhythm and rhyme.
In Health and Wellbeing, P.E., we have been doing some athletics and skipping. Mrs White has shown us how to do double dutch skipping, which is skipping with 2 ropes. It is very hard, but we now know how to use the ropes properly. In athletics we have been doing the speed bounce and the hurdles to get ready for the Sportshall Athletics Competition.
Speaking about Sportshall Athletics, the team all had a wonderful time & we did very well. Out of 102 schools, we came fourth, which we were all very excited.
Scottish Afternoon is all coming on very well and it will look brilliant on stage.
But we have had some sad news this week, Mrs Cornwell has been offered a secondment in the NHS for a year, but she has promised to be back for the Primary 7s Leavers Assembly.
