Yesterday we were extremely lucky and we got to see a showcase of all the talent Chryston has to offer!
In Primary 6 we had two singers as our finalists. Hannah sang a song from Moana and Caoimhe sang a Twenty One Pilots song 🎤
Miss Nelson and Primary P6 invite you to share in their learning.

Primary 6 have been taking advantage of the sunny weather and have been doing a lot of our learning outside.
We have been doing PE and even Taught Writing! Let’s hope it continues…
In maths we have started looking at measure – we measured different things in the class from ponytails to Miss MacLean’s eyebrows!
As part of our Technology topic we made presentations about the changes in different technology. There were some very interesting facts about phones, cameras, games consoles, computers and televisions 📱🖥☎📹📺
We have been really busy in P6 since coming back from our Easter holidays.
In maths we worked really hard on division, we are really good and even managed to write our remainders as fractions! Now we are moving on to money to look at budgeting. If any Mums or Dads need a hand with the shopping get P6 involved!
We finished off our Scottish Parliament topic with our class election that was held on the 12th April, the S.S.P party won with their replacement party leader Gregor Davidson – congratulations! Well done to all the other parties for a well fought campaign.
On the 24th April there was a bit of excitement because we were chick-sitting for P2 while they were on their school trip. They were very cute and we all got a chance to hold them, they are now away home to stay with Abigail!
Our new topic will be Technology in our time, so we are looking forward to finding out how far technology has come and what differences it makes to our lives.
Last week was Health Week and we were super busy!
On Tuesday we had Sports Day, we had to run a sprint race, hurdle race and shot putt. Well done everyone for trying their best and to those who won medals – we were very glad it stayed dry the whole time!
Wednesday we went out for our class walk, we walked around Chryston so fast that we had time to play in the park before returning to school.
On Thursday we made healthy pizza wraps! We got to chose our own toppings, there was chicken, BBQ chicken, ham, tomatoes, peppers and mushrooms. They were so yummy that we ate them all up! Everyone agreed they were really easy to make and that we would ask Mums and Dads if we could try them at home 🍕
On Friday we managed to miss the rain and the thunder and lightening (just!) and we spent time on our bikes and scooters. It was so mush fun and we were definitely all tired when we took shelter from the rain! 🚴🏻♀️🚴🏻♂️
We all had a great, fun an healthy week 😊
I hope everyone had a great Easter and are feeling refreshed and ready to go for our last term!
We are now trialling a new homework system throughout the school. Homework will be given out on a Monday to be returned on Friday.
Each child will receive ONE homework grid for the whole term with different tasks to choose from. This terms grid will be available here in case it gets lost! There are also a list of useful websites that you may wish to look at with your child.
Each week your child will receive a checklist with reading, a maths worksheet and a note of the weeks spelling words. This can be handed back in on Friday, should you wish to.
Happy Homework!!
We were a very sporty class on Monday for Sports Relief 🏃♀️🏃
In the morning we went to the hall to do circuits that were organised by the Health Committee. We had to beat the goalie, hula hoop, speed bounce, learn a dance, balance and complete a basketball shoot out 🏀⚽️
After break we went outside for a while for ‘sporty maths’. Hopefully we raised a lot of money for Sports Relief!🤸♀️🤸♂️
Last week was World of Work Week at Chryston and Primary 6 had a fantastic time. All week we had visitors in our class to tell us all about their jobs. We were visited by a vet, nutritional therapist, archeologist and a party planner, it was so much fun. 🐶🍏🎈
On Friday we went to the Careers Fayre. There were lots of different people there to tell us all about their jobs it was so interesting. The policeman brought his car in to the playground for us to see inside and there was even an Aston Martin! 🚓
Thank you to all the visitors – it has definitely given us lots of ideas for different jobs we want to do when we are older.
On Thursday the 8th February P6 went to Scottish Parliament because it is our topic.
As soon as we got there after a 1 ½ hour drive we had to get a security check to see if we had any weapons. We had to put all our bags and jackets through an x-ray machine and Miss MacLean had scissors on her so she got searched!
After the security check we got a tour around Scottish Parliament and learned lots of new things. Did you know that all the doors in Parliament have windows and there are around 200 saltires all around Parliament? We learned the most from Gregor who knew a lot of the answers to the tour guides questions! One of the person that designed the Parliament was from Barcelona!
After climbing loads of stairs, we finally reached the debating chamber in time for the First Ministers Questions. We had to stay very quiet the whole time and they talked about lots of different things including broadband, the police, housing and Prestwick Airport. There was also a part about a Shaun Woodburn and how is family wanted more information about sentencing.
For lunch we got to sit in a committee room. We met Fulton Macgregor who is our MSP and we got to ask him lots of questions on the microphones.
When we were leaving, we met Kezia Dugdale and even got out picture taken with her. She answered some of our questions very quickly because we had to get to the bus quickly!

“I thought the trip was awesome because you don’t usually see MSPs like Kezia Dugdale and Fulton Macgregor.” – Cole
Here is the homework for the next 3 weeks – yes 3! There will be no homework for the week beginning 12/02/18 due to the February weekend holiday.
One of the choice tasks is listening to two podcasts about Scottish Parliament. These are available on www.funkidslive.com or are available to download for free on iTunes.
