Our November learning

Recently we have been learning about the 1960s. Currently we have been practising and rehearsing our dance moves to ‘hard days night’ and ‘twist and shout’ two iconic Beatles songs. Our dances consist of various 1960s style dance including the shake , the swim and the twist and many more of our own creative ideas. We also have joined with the p7s and shared our dances with each other. We have also been performing to improve our singing voices at a further radius In the hall. As well as testing our voices we have moved up on to the stage to check the formations and positions of everyone to make sure they would be seen.

Although we have been spending a lot of time in topic we have also been learning about improper fractions. We have been displaying the tenths  , decimal and percentages to make us understand all aspects of of improper fractions. An improper fraction is when the numerator( the top part) is bigger than the denominator like 5/4.

Back in the huts!

P6/7 are now back in the huts and we’ve been very busy making our classroom beautiful. We have been learning different methods of doing mulitplication eg. short multiplication , smile multiplication etc… we showed what we learned on posters. We have also been very busy using our art skills to draw desert people. After we drew them,  we coloured them in using pastels focusing on showing different tones and light/darkness. They look amazing. We have also got our new reading books. They are called The Last Wolf  , Why The Whales Came and Racing Boy Racer.  We’re enjoying our reading books a lot.

Science

On Tuesday morning we went to the science lab with Mrs Miller. We were learning about chemical reactions. We had to wear safety goggles and not touch, smell, or drink anything. We used the different substances to make the potions in the ‘Harry Potter’ potion book. Then we got to make our own potions using the different substances.

Our topic is deserts. We have learned about different deserts like the Atacama and the Gobi deserts. We know that deserts are very dry and they don’t often rain. We know not all deserts have the same climate because Antartica is very cold and the Sahara is very hot. We got to make posters about the Sahara desert, the Gobi desert, the Atacama desert or Antartica. The best poster gets a prize.
We made all about me posters so we could get to know each other. We got to draw a picture of ourselves and write about our lives, like what we like/dislike, our families and about our hobbies.
