March in Nursery by the Orange Group

Another busy month here in nursery. We did lots of experiments and especially focused on how materials can change from one state to another e.g. melting, dissolving, freezing etc. It was really interesting (and tasty!) making (and eating!) ice lollies, jelly and krispie cakes.

We had a visit from Jon at ThinkScience.

It was amazing! We make clouds (big ones and baby ones that exploded!),

and we observed the power of the sun’s uv rays, which were really strong – even on a cloudy day!

We took part in an obstacle course for Sport Relief. Boys and Girls from school organised the whole thing and showed us what to do.

February  in Nursery by the Green Group

Caring and Sharing

This month we have been finding out how to look after babies. We have been taking turns and sharing our toys. We have been caring for the nursery toys and for each other. We talked about people who help us and even turned our imaginative area into a hairdressers!

HWB 0-05a Outcome: I know that friendship, caring, sharing, fairness, equality and love are important in building positive relationships. As I develop and value relationships, I care and show respect for myself and others.

SOC 0-17a Outcome: I make decisions and take responsibility in my everyday experiences and play, showing consideration for others.

LIT 0-14a Outcome: I use signs, books or other texts to find useful or interesting information and I use this to plan, make choices or learn new things.

MNU 0-07a Outcome: I can share out a group of items by making groups and can split a whole object into smaller parts

January 2016

January            Blue Group

Just some of the things the blue group did in January.

Scotland

We have read stories and found out things about Nessie. We have painted pictures and made models. We have tasted Scottish food and had a Burns Supper together. We designed our own tartan and used car tyres to make them too. We made a powerpoint of facts about Scotland and found out that Scotland has lots of castles, so we worked together and made our own using Junk Modelling. We had a delicious Burns Supper and Scottish Food tasting. Some dancers from St Patrick’s Primary came into nursery and gave us a demonstration of highland dancing. We had a go too! To celebrate all our learning, we had a ceilidh at the end of the topic and we all wore something tartan. We read Scottish stories and learned some Scottish songs and poems.

HWB 0-30a Outcome: Together we enjoy a diversity of foods in a range of social situations.

EXA 0-10a Outcome: I have opportunities to enjoy taking part in dance experiences.

LIT 0-01a Outcome: I enjoy exploring and playing with the patterns and sounds of language and can use what I learn.

MNU 0-02a Outcome: I have explored numbers, understanding that they represent quantities and use them to count, create sequences and describe order.

November in the Yellow Group

This month we’ve been finding out about autumn and technology.

beebot

The beebot is a programmable robot. We have to direct it using arrows.

This is Germglo. We put it on our hands and could see pretend germs using the uv light. Then we washed our hands to see how well we’ve been washing them!

This yellow group girl learned to ride a bike with no stabilisers – what a great achievement!

A visit from the Road Safety officer. Look at the reflective materials on the lollipop stick and jacket. That means you can be seen in the dark if car lights shine on you.

Using scissors is tricky work – look how hard we are concentrating!

Little Miss Muffet

Our rhyme of the month has been Little Miss Muffet. I was so impressed when one of our afternoon children had learned it already as homework!

Here are some of the wonderful facts, models and drawings children have made at home!

Update 26/10/15

This is the best response to homework EVER! We have been absolutely amazed with all the different ways people have made spiders, the facts they found out and even those who went to the trouble of MAKING their own curds and whey! Here are some of the great spiders we have seen…

Some were made out of egg boxes or cartons –

Others were made of balloons, furry material or woolly pom poms. There were even some Jaffa cake spiders but they were eaten before we could see them!

We never knew there were so many different ways to make spiders!

And the most amazing thing…. Curds and Whey! I think this morning child will have to teach me how to make cheese. It looks very complicated! It’s taken such a long time – look, she’s in her pyjamas when it’s finally ready!
