MPS’s Recycling Facilities

As a result of the questionnaire on recycling facilities which the Eco Committee created and sent out via twitter, we now have up and running MPS’s very own recycling facilities. Here is what is on offer:

Rag Bag

We are continuing to use the Rag Bag bin which is located in the car park. This recycles textiles such as clothing, paired shoes, handbags and belts. The Rag Bag is emptied quarterly and the school receives money depending on the weight of textiles being recycled. This a great way to recycle and help raise money for the school, it is estimated that approximately 1.75 million tonnes of clothing waste is produced in the UK every year. To recycle using the Rag Bag you can simply go into the carpark and pop all your textiles in the Rag Bag bin.

Battery Recycling

We have a new battery recycling box which recycles all household batteries as putting them in the bin means they rot away in landfill sites and the chemicals can leak into the ground. This can cause soil and water pollution. When chemicals contaminate soil and water, harm can be caused to animals, humans and the environment.

Ink Cartridge Recycling

We also have a new Ink Cartridge recycling box which recycles HP & Cannon, Brother, Samsung, Canon, Dell & Lexmark cartridges only. Ink Cartridges are made up of a combination of plastics, metals, foam, ink and toner. Throwing them into landfill represents a waste of resources and contributes to the growing problem of electronic waste.

Spectacle Recycling

We will also be offering recycling of Spectacles in conjunction with Marie Curie Charity. They recycle Spectacles by sending them to communities across Africa, India and Eastern Europe.

The recycling boxes for Batteries, Ink Cartridges and Spectacles are located at the entrance just outside the Primary 7 classroom.

Batteries, Ink Cartridges and Spectacles can be sent into school with children, and staff will advise of an appropriate time to deposit them in the boxes.
