Potential Industrial Action – 28th February & 1st March

NLC has been notified by some teaching unions of their intention to carry out industrial action on 28 February and 1 March 2023.

I wanted to get in touch with you directly as the impact of the industrial action may mean that you will need to consider additional childcare arrangements on these dates.

I will be in contact again  to clarify the impact on Lawmuir Primary School.

Energy Drinks

We are becoming increasingly aware of pupils purchasing energy/ high caffine drinks when going out for lunch.  This is having an impact on pupils ability to concentrate and take part in lessons in the afternoon.  We strongly advise you discourage your child from purchasing these and returning to school.

Reminder that only water should be provided for drinking in class. Pupils shouldn’t be drinking fizzy drinks, energy drinks or drinks high in sugar in school.

Playtime Snack

Please send your child to school with a small snack for morning interval.  Family sized packets of crisps and 3 or 4 sugary snacks aren’t appropriate.  We would always recommend a piece of fruit, a small low sugar snack or a small packet of crips and a small drink.

Lollipops and other sweets like this arent permitted.

We have an increasing number of pupils looking for snack to be provided by us. Unfortunatley we do not always have  a huge supply of this.

Should you be finding it difficult to provide snack due to increased financial pressure please let us know by contacting the school office. This will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Reminder: Come Comfy Day – Friday 24th February

Children can come to school on these days in their casual clothes and can also participate in the optional themes chosen by our Pupil Council. Suggested Donation £1.

Pupils should always be prepared for the outdoors. Jackets and appropriate footwear should always be worn. Donation is optional.

As always pupils should adhere to NLC policy below:

Items which are not permitted:

  • football strips/items with football branding
  • clothing with slogans that may cause offence (anti-religious, symbolism or political slogans)
  • clothing which advertises alcohol, tobacco or drugs
  • clothing which can be deemed unsuitable in terms of health and safety grounds such as shell suits, combat style clothing, dangling earrings, loose fitting clothes particularly in practical classes
  • articles of clothing that could be deemed to inflict damage on other pupils or be used by others to do so
  • false nails/nail extensions.

NLC Football Festival P6-7

Pupils from Primary 6 & 7 had a fantastic time at the North Lanarkshire Active Schools football festival this week. Well done to everyone who took part. A special thank you to Mr McDonald for coaching our boys team and Ricky Waddell from Caledonian Braves who came along to provide support and advice.

Improving Attendance

Improving attendance is part of our school improvement plan and a focus for all the schools in the Bellshill Academy Cluster.

The target for North Lanarkshire’s Schools for attendance is 95%.

Last session our average attendance was 90%.

We hope to improve this by 3% this session.

Schools in our cluster will be:

  • Reviewing attendance for each year group every month.
  • Contacting parents/carers of those children whose attendance is below average.
  • Working with partners to support families with children who regularly miss school.

Parents and Carers are asked to co-operate by:

  • Keeping planned absences to a minimum during term time (holidays/appointments etc).
  • Ensure that pupils arrive on time for school.
  • Contact the school as soon as possible to advise of any absences.

__________________________________________________________________________Parents Meetings – Thursday 24th November.

Parents Meetings will take place on Thursday 24th November between 3pm – 8pm.

Bookings can be made from Monday 7th November.

You should have received information on how to book an appointment. If you have any difficulty please contact the school office between 10pm – 2pm.
