Mobile Phones and Smart Watch Devices Policy

Safeguarding our pupils and staff is of paramount importance as children learn how to keep safe and act responsibility and respectfully online.   We have strict guidance and policy on the use of mobile phones and smart watches in our schools. Smart watches have the same functionality as mobile phones and can be set to record/ photograph and film.

While the benefits of mobile phones and smart watch devices are recognised, they can also be a serious distraction to work and on occasion impact significantly on individual pupil and staff wellbeing.

Mobile devices and smart watches are not permitted within school. This is to ensure the privacy, security and wellbeing of everyone is maintained.  Parents are kindly requested to ensure such devices remain at home.   If it is absolutely necessary for a pupil to have smart watch/mobile phone with them in school, the following procedure is to be adhered to.

At the beginning of the school day, pupils should have mobile devices in their own bags.   Pupils using their devices during the school will have them removed and parents will be contacted to collect the device at the end of the school day.

Inappropriate use of text messages and/or photographs/recordings (video/audio) whilst in school may be treated as a breach of the school’s code of conduct or a serious incident, which could be referred to the police.
