At St. Mary’s we aim to play an active role in the local community, encouraging our young people to be Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors.
Every year, we have a robust programme of World of Work experiences throughout the year where guest speakers come to school to deliver assemblies and workshops. Here is last year’s overview:
Every year, our Primary Sevens have the opportunity to participate in a local work placement to apply the skills they have developed in school in a real-life context and to prepare them for positive destinations after leaving school.
Here are some of our previous P7 pupils enjoying their experiences at a local hair salon and at Inverclyde Sports Centre:
Our children have the opportunity to visit residents of local nursing homes to share a variety of their learning. For example, our choir recently visited a local care home to share some of the songs they had been learning at Christmas time and performed in a charity concert in West Kilbride.
Every year, Primary 1-3 invite the local community to attend their Nativity in the Church to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Primaries 4-7 also perform Carols by Candlelight at this event. We also warmly welcome the community to our annual Christmas Fayre. At Yuletide, our choir will perform a medley of Christmas songs for the enjoyment of the community.
