Young People’s Poetry Competition 2021

In celebration of the work of the Cornish poet Charles Causley, the Young People’s Poetry Competition 2021 aims to encourage and enable young writers to have a go at writing poetry themselves.

This year’s theme is ‘Belonging’. What does ‘Belonging’ mean to you?

• The competition is open to all young people aged between 5 and 18 years old who live anywhere in the UK and is free to enter
• Judged by Patrick Gale and a panel of poetry judges with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Highly Commended places in each category
• Awards at the North Cornwall Book Festival in September 2021
• Category B – children aged 11 to 16yrs
• Category C – young people aged 16 to 18yrs

Deadline for entries is July 31st 2021.

The results are in!

Mrs Vaughan got the names to match the photos this morning for the World Book Day competitions, so here are the winners:

Decorate an egg Competition:
1st – Eve (S1) for the Cinderella egg – fabulous artwork and details
2nd – Rachel (S3) – Harry and Ron at Hogwarts – great artwork and even made cups for them to sit in
3rd – Alastair (S2) – Pennywise – very creepy and the hair looked alarmingly real!

 

 

 

Reading with pet photo competition:
1st – Reece (S1) – cat looked engrossed in the story!
2nd – Duncan (S2) – fish looked so bright and interested in physics!
3rd – Lucy (S3) – Dove the hen behaved so well and was so attentive to the story!

Foreign Book cover quiz winner – Ellis (S1) – was drawn at random from the correct entries.

Well done everyone who entered – Mrs Vaughan had a brilliant time looking at all the entries and a very difficult time judging the best!
