Scots leid competition 2021 – lang may yer lum reek
Competition from the First Minister’s Reading Challenge at the Scottish Book Trust to write a play, story, poem or song, or make a video, in the Scots language, inspired by the phrase – lang may yer lum reek. This means literally in English, ‘Long may your chimney smoke’ – which Scottish people say when wishing others a long and happy life.
Entries should be 500 words or 5 minutes long maximum
Open to all 11-18 year olds
Closing date – 18 August 2021
The winner will be named Young Scots Writer o the Year 2021 and will receive their award at a special ceremony (The Scots Language Awards 2021) in September this year.
