Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer programme that helps teachers to manage and monitor your child’s reading progress.

There are two parts to AR. The Star test and AR quiz. The Star test is the diagnostic part of the programme. Pupils take this assessment three or four times a year and this gives us information on their reading level. Taking it several times a year allows us to monitor progress and make sure they are still reading the right books for them.

All of the books in the school library are labelled with the reading level if they are part of the AR programme. When pupils select books to read they pick from their own reading levels. This ensures that they are reading at the right level to engage their interest and develop their skills, but not challenging enough to discourage them.

myOn ebooks are also available online as part of the AR package. This allows pupils to access books from home.
