Senior Phase Model

In S4, pupils opt for 7 subjects leading to a minimum of 7 SCQF qualifications.  This includes SCQF Skills Academy, Princes Trust and College courses.

In addition, pupils also study 1 period of Literacy and Numeracy where the pupils are supported to develop their transferable skills.  This can lead to an additional SQA Literacy/Numeracy Unit at a higher level than the child’s English/Maths qualification or an additional qualification i.e. Scottish Studies, Mediaand Personal Finance.  It provides an opportunity for literacy/numeracy skills to be developed to meet the needs of other curricular areas i.e report writing, developing the use of key words, analysing data etc.  This period allows pupils to continue to fill any gaps in their knowledge as identified from the Broad General Education and through assessment data such as SNSA.

1 period of Physical Education, 1 period of Enrichment (Health, Wellbeing and Skills).  This can lead to an additional SCQF qualification – Mental Health, Wellbeing, Sport, Leadership (not exhaustive) and 1 period of Personal and Social Education.

Last session we introduced the Open University (Young Applicants in Schools Scheme – YASS) to S6 pupils.  This provided an opportunity for young people to complete university level modules alongside school-based courses.  Results were very encouraging with 4 pupils passing various courses.
