We have had a busy first term in P1B. We have learnt lots of sounds and numbers.
We had a visit from baby Davey, and found out how to look after a baby.
A quieter day today for P1B as we had children from the nursery visiting our classroom.
The day kicked off with a fantastic assembly from P5/6 who not only delivered a super assembly but also planned it all themselves!
We then learnt a little bit more about Estonia. We looked at where it is on the map and could see that it was a long way away from us here in Lossiemouth. We made Estonian flags which we can’t wait to wave at our closing ceremony tomorrow.
After play we did a couple of energisers (Mrs Laing came and joined us and showed off some of her dance moves!) Then we decided to do some drama following the story of the Greedy Zebra.
After lunch we started our session off with some nice relaxing yoga, then we looked at the Olympics. We discovered that the Olympics was first held over 2000 years ago. We looked at the different medals that have been won at the Olympics over the years and decided that we should design our own Olympic gold medal for Rio 2016. We enjoyed sitting, drawing, colouring and chatting about what we had learned over the week.
Today was the day of our big, lower school…once a year…not to be missed…Sports day. We ran; we jumped; we maneuvered round objects and we balanced bean bags, we even ate ice cream!
After the fun of sports day we then joined P1A and P1C for a First Aid workshop with Jane Hay. We learnt about basic first aid. We all got to try our hands at bandaging up injuries, and to add to the experience we got to use fake blood – I wonder how many children tricked their parents when they got home?!
To finish our day off we headed down to the kitchen and chopped up melons to make a refreshing melon smoothie.
Today has been a super busy day for P1B.
We started the day off with a spot of yoga
Swiftly followed by a session with Rauraidh teaching us some circus skills. We had a brilliant time balancing balls, using scarfs and spinning plates.
After morning interval we then went straight to Tennis with Marcia from Lossiemouth Tennis Club. We learnt lots of new skills and had lots of fun doing it!
To top off our exciting day we then had a quick walk all the way to Rock Academy where Erika and the full time dance students all worked hard to teach us some new dance moves. After a warm up the boys stayed with Erica and did some Hip Hop while the girls went away with Lucy and Jemima and did some Ballet. The time flew by and before we knew it it was time to return to school.
Tere from primary 1B (hello in Estonian)
We have had a busy start to health week with a visit from some nursery children who will be coming into primary 1 after the summer holidays. We also enjoyed doing yoga in the classroom and felt really relaxed afterwards.
In the afternoon we went outside and learned some rugby skills.
Yesterday was an exciting day in P1B as our 5 caterpillars transformed into 5 beautiful butterflies.
We agreed that since butterflies only have a short life it would be best to release them outside as soon as possible. The butterflies were a little reluctant to leave and spent a few minutes saying goodbye to their friends…they were a little tickly! They moved onto the branches of a bush on the edge of the playing field. We hope they come and visit us at playtime.
Over the last few weeks we have been planting seeds and beans and watching them grow. Here are just a few of the things we have in our classroom just now.
We are also watching some very special visitors…
We have been watching 5 caterpillars grow over the last 3 weeks.
We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly so we know that our caterpillars are now in the pupa stage and we are eagerly waiting to watch their transformation into butterflies.
Primary 1B and primary 1C got together to watch an episode of Percy the Park Keeper. We then talked about the features of Percy’s park. We made a huge list of the things we might find in the park.
Miss Harvey and Mrs Carey then split us into two groups and put down two huge pieces of paper and lots of felt tip pens, pencils and crayons. We then set to work recreating Percy’s park!
Our pictures were fantastic!
