P6G/S Week commencing 13/4/2020

Good morning everyone. We hope that you managed to enjoy the last 2 weeks and have been keeping yourself busy and having fun! Have any of you been working on completing the ‘Help Around the House BINGO’?

The weeks suggested ideas for different subject areas are below. Remember that these suggestions can be expanded or reduced to meet your circumstances. The ‘Second Level Home Learning Pack’ is still on our page and we have attached the ‘First Level Home Learning Pack’ in case you would like this as a reference too. First Level Home Learning Pack

Don’t forget to take photos of your finished work and post it on your Twitter page!

Maths

Firstly, here are a couple of Sudoku starters to kick-start your maths brain. Try and give them both a go. Suduko 1

Hopefully, you have been trying your best to read the time at different points throughout the day and checking if you’re right. Continue to do this and challenge yourself to be using ‘past’ and ‘to’ the hour. We’ve added a worksheet so that you can build your knowledge on converting time and this will also call on your multiplication skills. convert_time_units_between_smhd_1step_001

We’ve added two new games on Heinemann Active Maths that will help you work more on Time too. Enjoy playing Marching Madness, it focuses on elapsed time (how much time has passed) and there is also a Robot Revenge game for you to play, to help consolidate your learning of converting and telling the time in both 12-hour and 24-hour form.

Very well done, to those of you that completed your Heinemann Active homework before the ‘holidays’, that was fantastic for us to see when we logged on! If you didn’t manage to complete this, the games are still there for you to play and are based on Fractions.

Remember that the school code is txhw.  https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0

Writing

Plan a report on a topic that you are interested in. It could be: dogs, cats, football or even volcanoes! Use the internet and/or other sources to research information on your chosen topic and then organise the information that interests you the most into sub-headings. (No more than 4 please, less if you feel this is more manageable.) If you are feeling confident, you can plan for an introduction or a conclusion too. Use the planning page attached to help you structure your plan. It should be familiar to you as it is the one that we have used in school. Recount-Report Planning

H & W

Are you all doing PE with Joe at 9am each morning?  It’s a great way to start the day and get you into a routine. Think of it as your “walk to school”. We have done it through the holidays too and it has really cheered us all up; especially ‘Fancy Dress Friday!”

This week for physical exercise you could have a go at making your own obstacle course in the garden. Use whatever items you have in your house and garden to make a course for the whole family to try, maybe even your pet if you have one! We would love to see what you come up with so make sure you post your photos or video clips to Twitter.

It is important to look after your mental health too. We have looked at ‘handling our emotions’ in class and learnt that emotions shouldn’t be seen as ‘positive and negative’ but rather ‘comfortable and uncomfortable’ Lots of things have changed in a short space of time and we are all having to learn to cope with new things. This week try to think of one comfortable and one uncomfortable feeling that you have experienced. You can talk about it with someone in your family, or you can write it down/draw pictures. Once you have done this you feel so much better!

Example: My comfortable feeling is ‘excitement’ because I can’t wait to see all the photos of what you have been up to! My uncomfortable feeling is ‘worry’ because my nanny is in a care home and can’t have any visitors, I worry that she will be lonely.

Reading

We hope that you have managed to fit in some reading over the holidays. Maybe you have finished a book? Or read several books?! We would like you to try and have a novel on the go all the time; it’s a good idea to read at bedtime to help you relax and get a good night’s sleep.

This week we would like you to focus on a character. You can choose a character that you admire, love, identify with, or really dislike! Draw a picture of the character (you can copy an illustration if there is one, or draw how you imagine them to look from the descriptions in the book)

Around the drawing make notes on the character. This can be individual words or phrases or sentences. Try to include what the character looks like (their physical appearance) but also what sort of person they are (their personality).

Get Creative

Can you create a sock puppet? Use whatever you have around the house (please make sure to ask your parents if it’s ok to use things first!), and an old sock. You could use your creation to re-tell a story, read to someone younger, put on a puppet show (remember when we looked at Punch and Judy) and let your imagination run wild! If you manage to create a puppet, we might call on them later for other tasks. The link below has some instructions on how to make a simple sock puppet if you want some help to get you started. Sock Puppet Examples
