P2Z Home Learning WEEK 9 (Term 4) 8 June 20

P2 Learning for Term 4 week 9 (beginning 08.06.20)

Here we are into week 9 of this virtual term already. We are very proud of how well you have done in managing to get this far into the term and coping with a whole new way of learning.

It will soon be our Health Week so don’t forget to check the website to see if there’s anything that you can do beforehand.

Our Teams meetings have been great fun. We know how much you enjoyed the scavenger hunt so we thought we would do another one next week. Make sure you make a note of when your next Teams Meet is as it is lovely to hear your news.

P2Z @ 11am on Tuesday 9th June

P2C @ 11am on Tuesday 9th June

Reading: This week we would like you to have a go at a book scavenger hunt. You have to see if you can find a book for each of the statements. It has to be a different book for each one – no repetition! If you can’t find one at home, think about all the books you have read in school or have watched on YouTube. Can any of them fit the statements? How many of these can you find? Have a go at reading them too if you can. Write down the book titles of the books that you can find or know. Please share your answers on Teams or Twitter.

If you are running out of books to read have a look at Oxford Owl Website. You will need to register, however, it is free to use.

Writing/Social Studies – Castles and Knights

Last term we learned a lot about jobs and the different skills required to perform these jobs. This week we would like you to imagine that you are applying for a job in the castle.

Have a look at the Powerpoint with some Castle Job Adverts and choose the one you would like to apply for Castle Job Advert PowerPoint. Talk to your adult about the different vocabulary and the meaning of it e.g. trustworthy, passionate, reliable etc.  Think about:

  • Why would you like to do that job? (e.g. Gardener Job – I enjoy looking after the plants in my garden.)
  • Why do you think you would be good for the job? (e.g. Herald Job – I am good at speaking/presenting in front of people.)
  • What experience might you have already? (e.g. Cook Job – I help my parents prepare meals.)

Use ONE of the templates to write your job application:

Differentiated Job Application Form

Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and finish it with a full stop. Check what you have written to make sure it makes sense.

Maths:  This week we are going to look at information handling. This means that information can be displayed in a variety of different ways (graphs, charts, tables, diagrams). The children should be able to collect data and present it in an appropriate way. They should then be able to ask and answer questions about the data.

We would like you to collect some data about one of the following or you can choose your own category. If there are only a few people in your house, you can ask your neighbours, phone some relations or friends.

  • Amount of Traffic
  • Favourite fruit and/or vegetables
  • Favourite sports
  • Favourite colours

Choose your title and create a tally chart when you gather your information.

Example:

Present your information in a pictograph or block graph.

Example:

Favourite Pets

  Favourite Fruit

Health and Wellbeing: We would still like you to continue with your 30 Days Wild challenge. Keep your eye on our Twitter pages for some extra ideas.

Worries and Anxieties.

We know that some of you are feeling a little bit anxious about what it is going to be like when we come back to school. It will be a bit different than what we know and will probably take us all a wee while to get used to but I’m sure we will all help each other. Remember, talking to an adult about your feelings is always helpful and will make you feel better. Your adults are there to help. We are also here for you so email us or post on Teams if there is anything you’d like to tell us.

We thought it might be an idea to create a Worry Doll. You can look for a special stick or twig when you are out for a walk. You can decorate it with wool, thread or ribbon but if you don’t have any of these things, you can colour it in/decorate it with pens.

Rights Respecting School

Article 15 – Definition and Activities

This week we would like you to explore Article 15.

Definition – Article 15 Freedom of association

Every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.

Introduction Thinking Question -What is needed for you to enjoy the right to get together and join up with other children and young people?

  • Possible answers : Clubs, organisations and groups that are near to you or can be accessed safely.
  • Groups and organisations that have fun and appropriate activities.
  • Safe places to meet.
  • Choice of clubs in school.
  • Encouragement from parents and carers to get involved.
  • Activities to join in with that do not disrupt the rights of others.
  • Freedom to start a group if there is something you feel strongly about.
  • Clubs and organisations should not be too expensive to join.

Possible Activities to understand, demonstrate or show examples of the article:

  1. Imagine you are meeting a new child for the first time – it could be in a club or in your class.  Make a list of  questions you would like to find out to get to know them. What would you tell them about yourself?
  2. Make a list of 5 children that you would like to get in contact with. Write them a letter or video call them this week to find out how their week has been.
  3. Watch this short video. What can you learn from this? How does it link to Article 15?

Check out Miss McNab’s and Mrs Taylor’s pages on our website, just in case you are looking for extra things to keep you occupied.

Remember to check Twitter for Miss McNab’s weekly challenge: Miss McNab Twitter

Don’t forget to log any physical activity you do for Tokyo Challenge Get Set Tokyo

Thank you very much for continuing to support us and your children through these very different times. We love getting your photos on Twitter as we still feel very much connected to our classes.
