RRS – Article 24 – Definition and Activities
As a part of our Rights Respecting School project we would like to carry on talking with children about their rights and what they mean. Every week we will focus on a different article. This week we would like you to explore Article 24.
Definition: Article 24 – Health Care – ensures that every child has the right to the best possible health.
Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.
Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
Introduction Thinking Question – How many ideas can you think of to help you be healthy?
Possible Answers:
- Enough Sleep – at least 8 hours
- Nutritious Food – fruit and vegetables
- Water – at least a litre a day
- Good hygiene – keeping clean, particularly your hands
- Exercise
- A clean environment
- Feeling safe, secure and respected
- Health care – To see a doctor or a nurse when you need to and to be vaccinated against diseases
Below you will find some activities that will help your child understand, demonstrate or show examples of the article. Please choose one activity your child would like to do (or more if you are keen):
- Set up an obstacle course and challenge someone in your house to have a go.
- Choose 10 items of food from your kitchen, can you sort them into healthy/not so healthy?
- Perform one of Miss McNab’s weekly challenges: Miss McNab Twitter .
- Create your own dance routine or have a go at this one Trolls Dance .
Science: For science this week we would like you to explore the 5 senses.
Have a look at this video explaining all the senses and then have a go at the scavenger hunt.
Challenge: Can you think of any more adjectives which you could use to describe some things that you taste or smell? Think about the things that you ate yesterday.
Remember, please don’ t hesitate to get in touch if you need any support or help. Have a great week and hopefully we’ll speak to you on Tuesday.
