Good Morning and welcome to Week 9! Yes Week 9 of Home Learning. I would like to let you all now how proud and impressed I am with your effort, contributions and attitude to everything you have been set, and how wonderful it has been to see different side of your personalities. Your resilience, perseverance and determination continue to be incredible. Please take a moment to give yourselves a pat on the back, round of applause and a fist bump. To your parents and carers, thank you for your patience and support as we have adjusted and endeavoured to maintain some sort of normality. The school website, GLOW, Teams, Twitter and email have been utilised to different degrees, so thank you for your dedication in these strange times.
Please see below for updates and then Week 9 Home Learning.
General Information
Article of the Week – Article 15 Freedom of association
Every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.
Of course, this has been restricted during lockdown, however children have the right to gather in groups to enjoy activities and belong to clubs, societies, groups or organisations. These groups should be safe, encouraging, fun and not too expensive or prohibitive. If there is something they feel strongly about they should be able to start a club of their own. Thinking ahead to S1, there are a lot of clubs run by various members of staff which pupils will be welcome to join. They have the right to do so.
Uploads
Yearbooks & EA Film Poster tasks should have been uploaded by Friday 5th June. If you are adding finishing flourishes, please upload ASAP to the correct Team locations.
The EA Fact file (sent by EA Admin) & the Positivity Jar (Assignments tab on EA Transition Team) should be completed by Friday 12th June & uploaded to the various Team locations. Dates may change so keep checking the different Teams pages for updates
Team Meeting
This weeks meeting will be at 11:30 on Wednesday 10th June. There is a vote on the P7O Teams page for which game pupils would like to play. The 2 options are Scattergories or Treasure Hunt. Voting will close on Tuesday midnight. As well as the game, we will be discussing Article 15 – which clubs pupils used to be part of, are part of now, any clubs they might join in S1 or beyond. Plus dream holiday destinations, HWB and anything else that comes up.

Home Learning Week 9
Literacy – Travel Brochure for an out of this world destination.
Watch the following 12 minute animation
These 12 planets all have unique features and reasons to visit.
Your task is to choose one of the planets and create a travel brochure advertising it as a holiday destination. You’ll need to consider the following
- Name of your planet
- Colour Scheme – use the planets theme colours
- Layout – Pictures, text, mascot, titles, font, size & spacing
- Reasons to visit – landscapes, activities, landmarks etc
- Mood – is it an exciting holiday, relaxing, adventure etc. Use the characters behaviour as inspiration.
You can complete this on blank paper or use your ICT skills to make a digital version.
Feel free to upload them onto the P7O Team, email it to me through GLOW or share on Twitter.
Literacy – Reading & Mindfulness
Please continue to read your chosen novel and keep up with current affairs through youth newspapers or Newsround.
Also the last few episodes of the Celebrity James & The Giant Peach are now available. Read along or find a quiet space, plug in your headphones and close your eyes. The narrators make the book come to life.
Numeracy – Holiday Plans
A little bit of escapism this week with planning a holiday to France or Germany with a budget of £500. This will incorporate Budgeting from last week plus some time work with calendars, dates, times and decision making. Your budget is £500 per person, so you could plan a solo trip, go with a friend or everyone in your house. 1 person = £500, 2 people = £1000 etc. You will need to consider;
- Transport- Flights, trains, buses, boats
- Accommodation – Hotel, Hostel, Camping, Renting a house or villa
- Attractions – Sights like the Eiffel Tower, Museum entry, Tours, Theme Parks
- Daily Budget – Food, souvenirs, treats, shopping
You must remain under budget, so this will determine if you stay for 1,2 3+ nights and remember to budget for return flights, trains, boats etc. Don’t get stuck! Use websites such as Easyjet, Ryanair, Hotels.com etc.
Sumdog & HAM will have more skills games set, and please contact me with any skills you wish to practice.
Health & Well-Being
Agility – Any Direction Touch Ball
Any direction touch ball instructions
This is another Rugby Scotland adapted game to play indoors, outdoors with any sort of ball you have. It’s a chase and touch game so you will need agility to move, shimmy, fake, dummy and dodge your way out. You can add or change rules to suit your circumstance depending if you are playing with an older or younger sibling or other family members
Miss McNab’s Wednesday Challenge is available plus Travel to Tokyo is active. The school postcode is IV30 4DY. Track and record your activities.

Article 15 Task
The Right to Association covers joining groups, clubs, societies and orgnisations. While it is quite tricky to meet as normal just now for Scouts, football teams, gymnastics, cheer etc can you make a list of 5 children that you would like to get in contact with. Who haven’t you spoken to in a while from your clubs or groups or school? You could write them a letter, arrange a video call with them this week or maybe a socially distanced chat from your garden or theirs. See what they have been up to and how their week is.
As always, I’m here if you need anything so please get in touch.
Have a great week,
Mr O’Neill.
