P5/6A and P6GS W/C 25.05.2020

Morning everyone. We were very impressed with how hard you worked to create your videos and PowerPoints for your Primary 1 Buddies! Well done and Thank You for completing your Buddy Applications too! If you did not get it finished, do not panic, you can still send them to us. Also, your Story Cube stories certainly put smiles on our faces. They were great!

Remember that we meet on Teams today (Monday) at 3pm. Come along and share some news and stories with us.  We hope to hear from you then.

Remember that Travel Tracker can still be completed at home by following the information on the main page. The three-word classroom password is: vibes-barge-evoke

We are still aiming to bring you ‘Health Week’ before the end of the term. There will be more information to follow regarding this, but for now, please see the Health Week page on the school website.

Writing

We hope that you enjoyed making up all your wonderful stories with your story cubes last week; this week we are going to use our Glow emails to write a letter to a friend or teacher.

We have all had to get used to lots of new technology over the last few weeks and we know at times that it can all seem a bit overwhelming. We thought that it would be a good idea to write a letter to a friend or a teacher using Glow emails this week for two reasons: 1: if you are not quite sure about how to use your Glow email yet, then it will give you a good chance to have a play around with it and figure things out and 2: you will be able to keep in contact with one of your friends that you possibly haven’t seen in a very long time. Who knows, you might even become pen pals!? If you like, you can send the same message to lots of your friends at one time and have lots of pen pals. We know that you are all probably very good with technology, but sometimes, there is nothing better than a good old-fashioned letter!

There are lots of things that you could include in your letter:

  1. What have you been up to during Lockdown?
  2. Have you learned any new skills?
  3. Have you had a favourite thing about Lockdown?
  4. Have you had a least favourite thing about Lockdown?
  5. How are you finding the suggested activities that are being set?
  6. Where has been your favourite place to exercise?

If you wish to copy us in on your letters our email addresses are:

Article 12 – Respect for the views of the child

Every child has the right to express their views, feelings, and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.

Thinking Question – What do you need to be heard?

Possible Answers:

1) Being properly listened to

2) Information about the situation so that you can comment properly

3) Help to communicate your ideas if you need it

4) An opportunity to give your views in a way that works for you

5) Feed-back so that you know your views have been heard

6) Feeling that your voice counts

7) Trusting that you can speak honestly even if your opinion is different from many others

8) Believing that your opinion is welcome and respected

TASK – Find out about a child or young person who made sure their voice was heard. You could choose Malala Yousafzai or Greta Thunberg or see if you can find out about somebody less well known. You can make your notes using bullet points or a mind map.

Reading

Your reading task this week is linked to Article 12 as you will be reading non-fiction articles as you research the young person of your choice.

Continue to read for pleasure too, whether that be a novel, a comic, a newspaper, or online articles.

Health and Well-being

Please use the link below to learn more about an exciting exercise challenge. As a school we are part of the ‘Travel to Tokyo’ challenge. The aim is to be active enough to travel the distance to Tokyo. We compete by logging all our activities, sports, and exercises as a school. Each class has been signed up individually, so we are in competition with other classes, but we also come together as a school to compete against other schools. Every week there will be a goal set up for each school to complete and if we achieve this, we are entered into a prize draw.  We know you are doing the hard work when out exercising, so why not start to log it and see if we can reach Tokyo!!!     https://www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo/log-activity

We are continuing our work on GROWTH MINDSET. This week we would like you to challenge yourself to try something new!

For example, juggling, dancing, football, baking, knitting, sewing, jogging, painting (you could use online tutorials) …….

As you do this you will be connecting those neurons, stretching that brain, and developing a growth mind-set!

Art

Get in touch with your creative side this week and have a little look on YouTube and re-familiarise yourself with our good friends at “Art For Kids Hub”. https://www.youtube.com/user/ArtforKidsHub They have got so many amazing ideas and tutorials for you to have a look at. Pick a couple of your favourites and amaze yourself with the drawings that you will create.

Art can be a really good way of relaxing your mind and can be great for releasing any stress or tension. If you feel yourself getting a little low one day, then this might be the perfect way to perk you up! You could even ask some other family members to get involved and turn it into a family activity…who can create the best piece of art? You could even draw one thing each day and have a collage by the end of the week. If you really, really like drawing, why not save up all your pieces and make one giant collage for the duration of Lockdown?!

Again, anything you create, we would love to see!

Music

Mrs Allan has a challenge for all you Harry Potter fans out there. This is a two-part challenge and part 2 will follow next week! Mrs Allan would love to hear (and so would we) some of you having a go at this, so send us a little recording!    Recorder challenge 6 (Part 1)      Harry Potter Part 1
