P4WN Home Learning Week 4 4.5.20

Good morning P4WN. Thank you, once again, for all the messages and work you have been sending us. It’s great to see what you have been doing and to hear how you are getting on. Hopefully, you are beginning to settle into a routine and are managing to do some activities that you are enjoying. If you haven’t yet joined our Microsoft Team, it would be great if could!  We had our first P4WN Team meeting last Friday and we are looking forward to another this week. Information about how to join is on our class page from week 3 on the school website.

P4W Home School Learning Week 3

Numeracy/maths

  • Last term pupils worked on fractions. This is a good time to practise practical activities as they are good for understanding all about them!

You could cut up cakes, pizza, fruit, fold paper etc in order to look at different fractions. You could use sweets, counters, or objects to find a fraction of an amount. Choose the worksheets which suit you best from those below to practise different skills.

You could make up your own fraction bingo or use the templates below.  Challenge the family to a game!

The new Sumdog challenge is linked to fractions as well. Can you complete the challenge and play the games too? This week’s challenge will finish on Thursday.  Active Maths will have some fraction games/worksheets as well.

Literacy

  • Across Britain on Friday many people will be celebrating a special event. 75 years ago, people all across the country celebrated VE Day (Victory in Europe) which meant that World War II was coming to an end. Use the link below to read about VE Day on the ppt presentation and summarise what you found out. You may like to read more about the events that occurred around this time.

Think about what food you would like if you were drawing up a party menu to celebrate. You can use the template on the link below to help. Remember to add colours and illustrations. You could choose to use the food you would like today for your menu or try to find out more about the food that would have been eaten then. Rationing of food meant many items were not available or in short supply. Read about rationing and what that meant. What would you have missed the most?

Health and Wellbeing

  • Once you have read about VE Day and designed your menu, you could make the food to celebrate with your family. It is nice to be able to enjoy meals together. You could set the table, get dressed up, play music and even have a dance! You could make some bunting which is colourful and bright and hang it in your windows or outside if it’s a nice, dry day. You will see some of the celebrations on television/online which will also give you more of an idea about how people celebrated. Use the link below to look at ideas for bunting and to download a template.
