P4WN Home Learning 27.4.20 – Week 3

Home Learning Packs – P4WN 27.4.20 week 3

Hello P4WN and we hope you are all continuing to be busy and active. Below you will find the activities list for week 3. Remember that these are only suggestions and that you do not have to complete them all as we know parents may be working from home as well as you! Lots of pupils are completing work on topics they find interesting and personalisation of your learning is a great way of being motivated. We are happy to see anything you have been working on. All learning is worthwhile.

Numeracy/maths

  • Last term pupils worked on 2D and 3D shape. Below you will find some useful links and some activities to help you remember or practise what you learned.

Activity: Look around your house and try to find as many shapes as you can. You could do 2D and 3D shapes.  List them and name the object. Count how many you found and where if possible? e.g. 1. Carpet shape – oval – living room

  • There is a new challenge on Sumdog about shape for pupils to complete. It would be worth looking at some of the activities above before you give it a go, There are also individual practice games assigned to each pupil on Heinemann Active Maths which will be kept up to date daily/weekly as required. You can do as many or as few as you would like. There are also some worksheets allocated on Active Maths too.

Literacy

  • This week pupils could watch the following link about messages from pupils in Italy to pupils in Scotland.

Coronavirus: ‘Always think positively – we are all with you’

They can then write their own checklist of tasks/activities they would like to complete while they are not in school. e.g plant some flowers, learn to juggle etc. You can start with activities you have already done. See how many you can tick off over the coming weeks. Don’t forget to use  lots of colour and illustrations to make it more interesting!

  • As the rainbow is a positive symbol in our current situation, you could use the link below to read about ‘The Rainbow Serpent’.

The rainbow serpent differentiated reading comprehension activity

You can choose from three different levels of reading and answer the questions to go with the one you choose. You can also draw/colour ‘The Rainbow Serpent’ and send us your finished pictures.

Health and Wellbeing

  • This week pupils could make up their own ball game with rules. You can think of all the ball games you know e.g. football, tennis, basketball etc and use some of those ideas. Or think about J.K. Rowling’s game, Quidditch, which she invented as part of her Harry Potter stories. Think about team size, rules, points, how to score, equipment. If you can, play it with your family. If it involves broomsticks or something else imaginary it might be a bit trickier to play! You could write the instructions or design/make a trophy which would be for the winners. Use the link below if you would like a template.

Art

  • Use the link below to find out about the artist Kandinsky. These chalk rainbow inspired pictures are colourful and bright. You could use chalks on paper or go outside and do them on the ground. Let us see any you manage to do.

  • This week we are introducing our class ‘Teams’. Microsoft Teams is a secure platform we are using to further improve communication between teachers, pupils, parents and carers. The package ‘Teams’ is available through pupils’ GLOW accounts which you were previously encouraged to register with. You should have received a text about this but if not then email the school office in order to receive the text.

If you have not registered yourself/your child onto Glow, then you will need to do this before you can access Teams. Please follow the video below to register your pupil(s) GLOW account. If you have previously completed this, please read the next paragraph.

Please follow the video below to get yourself/your child onto your school class ‘Teams’ page. The teacher has previously created the class ‘Teams’ page and it is ready for you. This page allows teachers to use a chat room to speak directly to pupils or parents.

  • Please could you also complete the parent survey below which asks about how you are finding the work which is currently being posted on the school website:

Remember you can contact us directly by using your GLOW login with any questions, work, photos, suggestions or even just to say hello and let us know how you are!

We hope you have a good week and look forward to hearing from you.
