Hello P4WN. Last week was a short school week but many of you managed to send photos/videos and messages to keep us up to date with what you were doing. We were very impressed with how hard you are working and continuing with tasks that suit you. Well done to all of you!

We had another successful Team meeting with many of you sharing what makes you happy. This week we’d like you to think of something you’ve been successful at and has given you a sense of achievement. It can be anything at all! Our meeting this week will be on Thursday at 10 am. Hope to hear from you then.

Numeracy/maths

  • For the next two weeks we are practising some data and analysis (graphs, charts, questionnaires, surveys).

The new Sumdog challenge is linked to this. We are entered in the Moray contest this week which means we are playing against other schools. You just need to keep playing and answering questions in the same way. It’s all about accuracy and it’s set at different levels so everyone can take part. The competition finishes on Thursday so let’s see how well we do!

You can also play games to practise your skills on Active Maths. If you do not have your login details, please let us know and we will forward them to you. There are also some worksheets to complete!

  • The activity this week is to collect some information and show it on a block graph. You can use the worksheets below to practise first. They will help you remember how to use tally marks to record how many of each item/piece of information. You will need your Active Maths login details to access these.

  • Now decide what information you would like to collect. You could look around your house and count different games e.g. how many jigsaws, board games, soft toys etc. Or you could look in the garden and count how many different bugs/birds/ flowers you can see. There may be less traffic but you could still count how many different vehicles go past your house (including aeroplanes!). Use a tally chart to collect the information.
  • Use the tally chart to create your block graph. Label it with the information and colour in the blocks.
  • You could either use the template below to help you or your own paper.

  • Create a few questions about your graph and then find the answers e.g. How many cars were there? What was the total number of vehicles etc?

Literacy

  • The reading task this week is to complete one of the following stories and comprehension questions. Please choose the one that is most suitable for you.

  • For writing we’d like you to write some poetry this week. The topic is your birthday month and there are a couple of examples for you to look at first. You can make it rhyme if you want although that can be quite tricky. Think about using good adjectives for describing. Illustrate it appropriately and if course, send us your finished results!

Health and Wellbeing

  • To continue our Rights Respecting School work we are also including an article every week. This week’s is Article 24 which says we must ensure that every child has the right to the best possible health so our activity below ties in well.
  • This week’s activity is to use the information below to spell out your name and complete each task for each letter. You can do your full name (first, middle and last) and get other members of the family to join in too!
  • You could extend this idea to your address, your favourite food, your favourite sport – whatever you want!

French

  • This week you could practise numbers and parts of the body. How far can you count out loud?
  • Play the dice game where you have to draw the body (a bit like playing beetle) which you have played in class. Remember to say the numbers and the body parts out loud when you roll the dice.
  1. head – la tete, 2. stomach – le stomache, 3.arm – le bras, 4. leg – la jambe, 5. foot – le pied, 6. hand – la main.
