P2Z Home Learning WEEK 7 (Term 4) 25 May 20

P2Z Learning for Term 4 week 7 (beginning 25.05.20)

Good morning to you all. We hope you had a good week last week and managed to get outside even with the changeable weather.

We would like to set up another Team meeting this week. It was really great hearing all your news at the last one. This week we would like you to prepare a ‘Bingo’ board. You will need a couple of pieces of paper in case we get a chance to play a few games and something to write with. Split your piece of paper into 6 parts and write a number between 1 and 10 in each part. We are going to play addition and subtraction bingo.

Don’t forget that when you check in on the chat bar, please choose an emoji that best describes how you are feeling.

P2Z – Tuesday 26th of May @11am

P2C – Tuesday 26th of May @11am

Your morning starter this week is another Boggle board.

Reading/Writing: As you know, we like to link our learning, so this week our reading and writing are also linked to our social studies.

For your reading and writing tasks this week, we would like you to create a fact sheet about the different parts of a castle.

Have a look at the PowerPoint and pages 6-7 on the Oxford Owl link, to gather information to be able to use in your fact sheet. Get an adult to help you with the Oxford Owl link.

Oxford Owl – So You Want To Build A Castle

To create your fact sheet, remember to include:

  • A title
  • Subheadings
  • One or two sentences for each subheading
  • An illustration (drawn or printed/photocopied)
  • Proper sentences with a capital letter and appropriate punctuation.

Don’t forget that this could be done over a period of time – you don’t need to do it all in one go. Also don’t forget to read what you have written to make sure it makes sense.

Social Studies/Technologies – Castles and Knights

This term we planned to do our IDL unit on Castles and Knights. Here are some links to  clips with information about castles. You don’t need to watch them all at once.

Using what you have found out about castles, try building your own one. Use different materials you can find in or around your house (Lego, cardboard, sand, playdough). Make sure to share pictures of your castles with us.

Maths:  This week, for maths, we will continue to focus on money – shopping.

Look at this price list. Each item in each box costs the price on the label eg. 1 button costs 1p so the total of all the buttons would be 8p.

How much would it cost to buy:

  • 1 triangle and 1 love heart?
  • 1 smiley face and 1 arrow?
  • 2 suns?
  • 2 lightning bolts and 1 blue wave?

Choose different items to buy and write the number sentences and the answers.  Get your parents/carers to ask for/buy different items and you can work out how much to charge them.

Challenge 1: Change the price tags – up to 20p, 50p, £1.

Challenge 2: Work out the change you would get from 20p, 50p, £1, £5

Challenge 3: Set up a shop at home with different items. Add price tags up to 20p, 50p, £1. Ask members of your family to play at shops with you.

Please check out the RBS Money Sense website with games and interactive money lessons on Mondays at 11.30am. https://rbs.mymoneysense.com/home/

Moray Sumdog Contest Well done to everyone who took part in the Moray Sumdog Contest! Both P2 classes came in the top 20 out of 45 classes taking part which is great news! We are very proud of you all.

Money Sumdog Challenge – This week we are setting you a challenge to help you consolidate your knowledge on money.

Health and Wellbeing:  After our class meeting this week, we realise that we all have good days and at times, also bad days. These are normal feelings for the situation we are in, even for adults. We are all missing our friends, family and the school and that is why we would like you to have a look at this lovely story:  While We Can’t Hug

A few weeks ago, one of our classmates sent a virtual hug to his friends and this gave us the idea of drawing or creating a big hug to pass onto your friends and classmates via Twitter, just like the one below. You can draw freehand, get someone to draw round you, create a hug from plasticine/playdough or even Lego.

Share a picture of your drawing with us and we will pass on your hug to your friends on our class Twitter page.

Remember to check Twitter for Miss McNab’s weekly challenge: Miss McNab Twitter

Health Week

Our annual health week will be a bit different this year – it’s going to be 2 weeks for a start! There is a separate section on the main page of the school website which will give you more ideas/information about what’s coming up.

Article 12 – Definition and Activities

This week the article of the week we would like you to explore is Article 12 – Respect for the views of the child.

Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.

This right applies at all times, for example during immigration proceedings, housing decisions or the child’s day-to-day home life.

Introduction Thinking Question – What do you need to be heard?

Possible Answers:

  • Being properly listened to
  • Information about the situation so that you can comment properly
  • Help to communicate your ideas if you need it
  • An invitation or opportunity to give your views in a way that works for you
  • Feed-back so that you know your views have been heard
  • Feeling that your voice counts
  • Trusting that you can speak honestly even if your opinion is different from many others
  • Believing that your opinion is welcome and respected

Possible Activities to understand, demonstrate or show examples of the article

  1. In some stories children’s views are ignored. Have you read ‘Not Now, Bernard’? If not, watch this story. What would you say to Bernard’s parents if you had the chance? Not Now, Bernard
  2. Find out about a child or young person who made sure their voice was heard. You could choose Malala Yousafzai or Greta Thunberg or see if you can find out about somebody less well known.

Have a great week and we look forward to our class Bingo game on Tuesday.
