Good morning everyone. A big well done to you all for continuing to look on the website for your suggested activities and for trying hard to complete what you can. We are proud of the effort that you are all putting in. We hope that you are also taking the time to rest and play and that you all managed to get outside and enjoy some of the fantastic weather that we have been lucky to have. The weeks are flying in, cannot believe that we are in June already.

We will meet on Wednesday 3rd June for a DISNEY QUIZ! Log onto Glow and go to our class page. You will see a blue box appear at 3.30pm that says, ‘Join Now’, just click on there and we will be waiting.

Starters

Maths

This week is all about co-ordinates. We love co-ordinates and hopefully, you will have fun with them too! Can you remember the helpful phrase? Along the corridor and up the stairs. Reading / Comprehension

This week we have a Disney themed comprehension. You will find a variety of lyrics from Disney films. Read through them carefully (sing if you want to!) and then answer the accompanying questions. You can choose your favourite song out of the set or do them all!  Disney Music comprehension

 

Writing

Well done for all those fantastic letters that you wrote last week. It was so nice to read all the things that you had been up to. There really is nothing better than a good old-fashioned letter!

This week we are going to begin to write an extended story that will have three chapters. The aim is to write one chapter a week for the next three weeks. This week we are going to focus on Chapter One which will mostly be about establishing a descriptive setting, getting to know your character, and setting up a plot that will get your reader excited enough that they will want to read on!

Your book is going to be a ghost story. The story that we have written is set in a castle in Stirling but yours can be set anywhere and be about anything. Just remember to use lots of description so as to put a clear picture in our heads.

Week 1/Chapter 1

  • Think about your character and setting. Who is your character going to be and where is your story going to take place?
  • Decide on the three main points in your story. How is it going to begin? What is going to happen in the middle? What is going to happen in the end? (You need to know your ending before you begin…this way you are more likely to get there!)
  • Design a front cover for your story. Remember to include the title of your book, the author and illustrator of the book and a picture that will grab your reader’s attention.

Once you have got all that straight in your head you are ready to start writing. Here are a few things to consider:

  • P1: Who is in your story? When is your story taking place? Where is your story taking place? What is happening and why? You can also begin to describe your setting and a little bit about your character.
  • P2: Describe your setting and character in a little more detail. What is your character doing now? What are they thinking? How are they feeling? (Back this up using changes in the weather etc…)
  • P3: Your Character should discover the “Danger” in this paragraph. It could be pushing the door open to a haunted house or tripping and falling down a dark hole. (Lots about how the character is feeling and what they can see and hear as they discover that they are in danger/in a scary place.
  • P4: Something should catch your character’s attention at the end of this paragraph. Do they see something shiny in the corner? Do they see a strange slither of silver mist float across a darkened window? Do they hear a strange sound that sounds like the beating of tribal drums coming from downstairs? Your chapter should finish with your character about to go and investigate whatever has caught their attention.
  • See

  • Hear
  • Smell

Use your character’s senses to guide your reader around your story.

We have uploaded ‘The Green Lady’ into the files on our Teams page so that you have an example story if you want to have a look and get some ideas.

Health and Well-being

For your physical health and well-being, we encourage you to have a go at Miss McNab’s challenges, a new one is posted every Wednesday on Twitter! Make the most of the sunny days and get out for your walks, bike rides and playing in your garden. Remember to log all your activities on the Tokyo Challenge. For the next fortnight, we would like you to work on a project in the form of our ‘Home Personal Projects’. It is a research-based one and you can choose from……

The Dangers of Alcohol OR The Dangers of Smoking.

As usual, you can display the information in any way you choose. It can be on A4 or A3 (whatever paper you have available to you).

 

Other

For your “other” activity this week we would like you to get creative in the kitchen. (Obviously, ask an adult’s permission first before you turn into Jamie Oliver…)

Can you create something delicious for your family to eat? There are so many ways that you could do this: you could bake, make a pot of soup, make a new and exciting smoothie recipe, make some lasagne or even make a whole three-course dinner if you are feeling particularly ambitious! If there are any favourite recipes in your household, why not ask to learn one of these? This way you will be able to make it too! (At the moment I am learning to make a lemon coconut cake…a few more tries and I might even get it right! 😊)  We look forward to seeing your delicious creations.

Definition: Article 7 – birth registration, name, nationality, care.

Every child has the right to be registered at birth, to have a name and nationality, and, as far as possible, to know and be cared for by their parents.

Thinking Question – How can your name and nationality be respected?

Possible Answers:

  • By being called your preferred name (shortened or in full)
  • Your name being pronounced properly and spelt correctly
  • A birth certificate
  • A passport (if you need to travel out of the UK)
  • You are encouraged to be proud of your name and nationality.
  • You get a chance to celebrate your national identity perhaps with a special day, food or music.

Activity – Draw an identity hand!  Draw around one of your hands, write your full name in the thumb area, in the next finger, write your date of your birth, put the country you call home in the next finger. Then in the last two fingers, write the names of two adults who are important for you, like your parents, carers or grandparents. Draw the flag of your nationality on the palm. Finish your picture with your favourite colours or designs. Share these with your class and teacher.
