December News Letter

December 2015

Dear Parents and Children,

I do hope the festive season finds you well and healthy and that you are getting prepared and looking forward to the big day. It’s certainly all go here at Inveravon and the stage was set up in the hall last week which means we can get our show well and truly rehearsed now. This year you can all look forward to enjoying  “A Magical Christmas Journey” and I’m fairly sure you will all have a good idea about what that will involve……stars…angels….shepherds etc etc! As ever our enthusiastic pupils are putting their hearts and souls into rehearsals and it is sounding great even at this early stage.

The concert will be held on Tuesday 16th starting at 7pm and followed by the usual festive refreshments to which you are all welcome. The children will need to be in school for about 6.30 in order to get into costumes etc. There will be no raffle this year as everybody has given so much already. We are all looking forward to this event and the children are very excited about performing to you once again.

Last weekend of course saw us all in school on Saturday for what was our first ever and extremely successful Christmas Fayre. The atmosphere in the school was joyous and everyone seemed to be having a lovely time. I daresay you will have heard that we made £958 which is a staggering amount for such a small school. I must thank each and every one of you for giving so generously and for making the day such a tremendous success. Many thanks also to the children and the staff who worked tirelessly to make it happen and to ensure that the standard was high.

The school looked lovely and was very welcoming for all the good folks in our community who came along to support us. It was just a great day and the warmth of community feeling has left us all with a rosy glow and feel good factor. What a great way to welcome and celebrate the season of advent.

We are going to be making the wreaths today so foliage a plenty will be strewn around the school as we get going to fulfil the orders. I am really looking forward to flexing my creativity skills and I am sure to be kept right about how to make them properly by the children who really do know what they are doing.

As you know we decided not to go to the Panto in Inverness this year and the children have instead opted for a trip to Baxters to see Santa and to enjoy a pancake and juice. They wrote me very persuasive letters asking if they could go and I was only too delighted to say a great big YES!  The cost of this is £5.99 per child and thanks to the Smartie money coming in we are

able to go. How exciting!

Pupils Christmas Party  Friday December 18th.  Party clothing can be taken to school to change into after lunch.

All pupils will go home at 3.15pm after the party.

Church Service with Glenlivet Primary  Monday December 21st to be held at Inveravon Church at 10.00 am – All Welcome and please join us for coffee and a mince pie back up at the school.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we will see you all back to school on Tuesday 5th January 2016.

From all of us at Inveravon Primary

Term 4 week 1 & 2

Wow we have been so busy in the last 2 weeks after coming back from our Easter break.

We are now going swimming lessons on a Friday morning with all the children taking part.

We have also been lucky enough to have a visit to Tesco’s in Keith to see where the fruit and vegetables come. We noticed that they are importing things from all over the world.

Firstly we went on the shop floor and we had to find fruit and vegetables which were the colours of the rainbow. This was tricky for the vegetable group as they could not find anything that was blue! Mrs Reid then told us that you can get blue potatoes, so thats something we need to look out for.

In 2 groups we then had to estimate the weight of the items in our basket and then went to the checkout and checked our results.

We also visited  the bakery department and were lucky enough to get to make our won doughnuts and sugar them too.

Alan Linee also came and visited us at our school and talked to us about foraging and natural history. He talked about bush craft and helped us identify different plants in our playground. We looked at the 4 main things you need to survive in bush craft and they are  Shelter, food water and fire and what they can help you do. IMG_0770 IMG_0772 IMG_0752 IMG_0753 IMG_0756

After school club

This week we  started back to Lego club on a Wednesday afternoon, Allister Duncan has continued to volunteer to help with the Lego club for his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award that he is taking part in for 423(Speyside)DF Air cadets. Also we are lucky this term to have Ashleigh Duncan who has also volunteered to run a craft activity along side the Lego club, she also is working towards her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award for the 423(Speyside)DF Air cadets.

This week the children were doing some origami and also making loombands. The boys on the other hand took the oppertunity to play some Lego games.  The children are able to use their imagination in these activities  and suggest what activities they would like to do in the future.

Our special visitor

On 17th January 2014 we had a visit from a Richard Lochhead MSP.

We had the opportunity to show him what we do at Inveravon Primary.

In school this term we have been very lucky to have a German Student, Jenny Hoff come every Thursday afternoon and teach us some German. We have been trying hard to learn a German number song, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to show Mr Lochhead.

Our topic last term was “Creativity” and one part of this was to make a movie maker about it. This too was also shown to him.

Open afternoon

On Monday 13th January, Inveravon Primary School invited the parents to come in and see what we have been leasrning about.

Our topic  last term was all about “Creativity” We also presented a movie of all our learning showing what tools we used.

” I see”

” I think”

“I wonder”

Also we had 10 minute creative thinking tasks for our parents to try and we showed our parents all of our paintings we have inspired to do after examining different artists.

School Nativity “The Donkey Seller”

After weeks of practicing for the school nativity the children gave a fantastic act of the “The Donkey Seller”

There are many different characters and some of us had a few nifty costume changes to do throughout the performance.

The story is traditional……………Mary ……….. Joseph………….a baby and all the usual suspects …………but this year, Bethlehem’s donkeys take a more prominent role and we tell the tale from their point of view.

We see how a dull and boring December evening is transformed by the arrival of some unexpected visitors and how the profit driven donkey seller comes to realise that there are more important things in life than making money.

.

Great turn out for the children and fun was had by all.
