Since joining the Attainment Challenge in 2017, we have fully embraced the opportunities that being involved has brought. We have built meaningful partnerships with Community Learning and Development, Barnardo’s, Inverclyde Libraries Service and the Coaching and Modelling Officers from the Attainment Challenge Team to support us in promoting family engagement. This has been a successful partnership as family involvement in the school has greatly improved. Parents now have far more opportunity to be active participants in the life of the school and are now more involved with their child’s education and learning. Working with our partners to provide ongoing opportunities for parents to engage in learning with their children and participate in workshops to help them support their children’s learning has been positively received.
Barnardo’s hosted a weekly Family Learning Club on a Wednesday after school for all families and children to attend. CLD helped our Nurture Teacher to establish a Parent Drop-in Café on a Friday morning and now our parents run it themselves! This is an enormous benefit to the life of the school as many of these parents help the school throughout the week. Throughout the year, CLD help us provide many different types of opportunities and training for parents, for example; Families Connect on a Monday afternoon, or arts and crafts workshops, and healthy cooking classes.
Family engagement has become so important to our school and our families and children really benefit.
