Learning From Life, down under!

Throughout my Learning from Life Placement I will be in Mandurah, Western Australia.

Stretch Festival.

I will be working with Mandurah City Council to help organise the Stretch Festival which will take place on the 6th and 7th of May. Mandurah City Council   works closely with the local community and wider community to promote the artistic talent within the Mandurah and Peel region.  Stretch Arts Festival brings in 000 people from Mandurah and the surrounding local communities, known as the PEEL region. I’ve never been involved in organising something as large a scale as a festival nor have I had experience working with local authorities so I’m really looking forward to immersing myself in something totally different to what I’ve ever done previously.

Mandurah Catholic College.

I will also be spending time at Mandurah Catholic College, which I am extremely excited about as I have not had any previous experience in either a private nor a religious school. I am also very excited to compare and contrast the curriculum  that is used in Mandurah Catholic College (MCC) and Curriculum for Excellence  (CfE). Throughout my time at MCC, I will be shadowing a Health and Drama teacher. MCC is a primary and secondary school so I will be able to gain some experience in a high school setting as well as primary setting. I am really keen to gain experience with teaching and observing health and drama/music  lessons as I was not able to do a music lesson on my MA1 placement. Last year on my MA1 placement, the school had a specialist teacher for drama/PSE so I’m excited to compare the differences between these lessons.

I will also be involved in rehearsals for MCC’s stage production of ‘Seussical: The Musical.’ I have never been involved with youth theatre groups as a child or as an adult volunteer. My singing and dancing is quite a ghastly sight but I cannot wait to get involved in a show. ‘Seussical: The Musical” will be performed at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on the 12th and 13th of May.

Mandurah City Library.

As the schools will be off for 2 weeks for the Easter Holidays, I will be in Mandurah City Library for the out-of-school Easter activities. When I was younger I fancied being a librarian for a little while so I’m glad that I’ll be able to make one of my younger dreams become a reality. Throughout my time at the library I will be assisting with art and crafts activities. I love doing arts and crafts activities so I’m excited to spend time at Mandurah City Library.
