Child Protection

The vast majority of children and young people in Scotland live safe, happy and healthy lives. The safety of our children and young people is everyone’s responsibility and we have a legal duty to ensure that children are protected from abuse and neglect.

Schools and nurseries play an important role in the prevention of abuse and neglect by:

  • Promoting positive relationships.
  • Creating protective, inclusive environments.
  • Providing opportunities for children and young people to learn about being safe.
  • Encouraging people to speak up if they have worries or concerns.

Safeguarding and Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures promote the wider context of safeguarding with a focus on supporting and protecting the safety, wellbeing and dignity of all children and young people.
