The vast majority of children and young people in Scotland live safe, happy and healthy lives. The safety of our children and young people is everyone’s responsibility and we have a legal duty to ensure that children are protected from abuse and neglect.
Schools and nurseries play an important role in the prevention of abuse and neglect by:
- Promoting positive relationships.
- Creating protective, inclusive environments.
- Providing opportunities for children and young people to learn about being safe.
- Encouraging people to speak up if they have worries or concerns.
Safeguarding and Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures promote the wider context of safeguarding with a focus on supporting and protecting the safety, wellbeing and dignity of all children and young people.
