MVP Focus Groups 2026

In March 2026, the MVP national team at Education Scotland visited six schools and one community group to hear from young people and staff involved in MVP. We asked them about the impact of MVP, what they might change, and highlights and challenges of the programme. We will make the full report available soon, watch this space!

Updates from the School Lead Delivery Survey Dec 2025

School leads from 148 schools completed the delivery survey in December last year. This was an amazing number and provides the national team with valuable information, some of which is summarised below:

  • 41 % of schools across 21 Local Authorities are using the school lead quality assurance booklet – This can be found here
  • 53% of schools are using measures to quality assure MVP, with 66% of those using the surveys/focus groups. Links to pre and post mentee and mentor surveys can be found in the school lead quality assurance booklet
  • 43% of schools are accrediting MVP – For suggestions of  qualifications that can be used to accredit MVP click here
  • 56% schools are working with partners such as campus police officers, community learning and development (CLD) and women’s aid
  • 43% of schools also have staff delivering MVP sessions – The graph below shows the range of scenarios being used by mentors and staff.
  • Staff feedback on the MVP programme was positive and they felt sessions were relevant and impactful
Case Studies

The national team have produced 2 case studies detailed below:

MVP: An effective school and youth work partnership – This case study explores the collaboration between Smithycroft Secondary School and St Paul’s Youth Forum in Glasgow.

Engaging boys and men in the MVP programme – This case study explores how Park Mains High School in Renfrewshire, engage their senior boys in MVP.

Both case studies are on our MVP Glow Blog and can be accessed here.

ASN Resources

The team have been working on adapting more scenarios for use with ASN learners. There are a further 4 now available: Words, Pressure, Photos and Sextortion. These can be found in the ASN section of the MVP glow blog, the password to access this is the same as the mentor support team password.  ASN Materials | Mentors in Violence Prevention in Scottish Schools

Everyone’s Included

Everyone’s Included is a resource that aims to support inclusion and reduce bullying by encouraging children and young people to be active bystanders in a safe way when they witness harmful behaviours. Originally part of the MVP programme, these lessons have been removed to allow MVP to focus solely on gender-based violence. The lessons are ideal for delivering as part of transition (from primary to secondary school) or as part of the HWB curriculum. The full resources can be found here – Everyone’s Included | Resources | Education Scotland
