Continuous professional learning is essential to providing high-quality ELC. Glasgow’s Professional Learning Framework is for all staff in local authority and funded providers of ELC in Glasgow to support their continuous professional learning journey. The leadership team can also use it to keep an overview of staff development needs and support planning for development at establishment level.

The framework shows how practitioners should progress through the induction and universal stages before engaging in more targeted training, with a continual emphasis on ensuring supports are in place to ensure the implementation of new skills and knowledge.

INDUCTION
Training all staff should complete within 6mths of new employment within an ELC setting.
UNIVERSAL
Training all staff should complete before accessing more targeted training.
IMPLEMENTATION
To ensure universal and targeted training leads to improved practice, staff should access implementation support, such as coaching and consultation.
TARGETED
Targeted training should be accessed, following universal training and alongside implementation support, in line with personal and setting development needs and priorities.
