Workshop 5 – Kilpatrick ASN School

Restorative Approaches and Additional Support Needs

Implementing whole-school Nurture and Restorative Approaches have been foundation stones in our efforts to embed our ethos and culture at Kilpatrick School and to foster positive relationships within our school community. Our commitment to Restorative Approaches is both explicit in our School Vision, Values and Aims and lived through our daily connections and interactions.

This workshop will discuss our journey, including:

  • Changing staff mindsets, confronting expectations and winning hearts!
  • The challenges faced when supporting young people with complex additional support needs to develop their understanding of responsibility, accountability and to genuinely be active participants in conflict resolution.
  • How we have overcome these difficulties through flexibility in our whole school Restorative Approach which takes cognisance of the very diverse needs of our learner cohort.
