Workshop 4 – Glasgow Educational Psychology Service

The Roots of Restorative Approaches: How restorative circles supported staff wellbeing and connectedness following critical events which impacted whole school communities.

This workshop will outline how Restorative Circles were used following critical events that resulted in high emotional impact on staff, in two schools. To outline how restorative principles can be applied in the context of school community-based restoration and healing, the indigenous origins of restorative approaches will be highlighted. The session will provide an outline of how restorative circles were implemented and share reflections from both facilitators (Educational Psychologists) and participants (school staff). Through these reflections, the workshop will highlight how Restorative Circles can promote staff wellbeing and also support communication, relationships and connectedness during critical periods in schools.
