Sciences

Through learning in the sciences, children and young people develop their interest in, and understanding of, the living, material and physical world. The sciences curriculum area provides learners with the knowledge and skills to flourish in an increasingly globalised world, including: scientific literacy, inquiry and investigative skills and analytical thinking skills.

The sciences curriculum plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Scotland’s STEM Education and Training Strategy. Practitioners are encouraged to embed Learning for Sustainability in the sciences to support efforts to address the climate and nature emergencies and to help Scotland become a Net Zero Nation.

Curriculum Support and Professional Learning

Education Scotland offers free bespoke support for learning, teaching and assessment in the sciences.

Our team values the opportunity to work alongside practitioners in all sectors (ELC, primary, ASN and secondary) to share ideas, support their practice and help them build their curriculum.

We offer local, regional and national support to meet the needs of cluster groups, subject networks, individual schools, and subject departments and can cover a number of areas of focus.
