Block Themes

A block theme is a theme that uses blocks for all parts of a site, including navigation menus, header, content, and site footer. These themes are built for the newest features coming to WordPress that allow you to edit and customize all parts of your site. This allows you to switch up key parts of your theme without ever needing to change themes.

This is a huge change in how you can make your site look.

Here are three very short videos explaining the difference and helping to understand Block Themes. The third video should get you up and running with a site very quickly.

Blocks for Site Editing

If you are going to redesign page and post layouts. You can use any of the block in the site editor, the ones in the ‘Theme’ section of the block inserter may be of particular use.

The Theme section of the Block inserter lists the block below. With the exception of the Query Loop block we have not documented these here. They are well covered in the Theme Block section of WordPress.org.
