Exploring the learning possibilities of a place near you (West and East Scotland Events)

Building on Education Scotland’s successful ‘3-18 Places Projects’, this free half day event will prepare you to build the curriculum around the possibilities of an outdoor place near your school. We aim to give you an inspiring and enjoyable day that will open your eyes to the many possibilities of teaching outdoors in a local place, and leave you with practical ideas for how to get started

Creativity and Learning in the Wild

This active, outdoor event aims to inspire lecturers to work creatively out of doors, developing interdisciplinary skills with creative approaches.

The event will also offer an opportunity to develop an understanding of the John Muir Award and how this can be used to enhance learners’ skill and qualifications. A major feature of the day will be designing and carrying out activities including shelter building, generating ideas of how to use this as potential evidence for assessment.

Outdoor Learning: Orphan Land – ‘Your Space’, 22 Nov

This webinar focuses on engaging young learners and adults with mental health issues in outdoor learning, by  transforming a piece of unused and neglected land into a usable space for the local community.

It will be of interest to anyone who would like to find out more about using the outdoors as a learning approach, and the ways in which this can be achieved by partnership working.

National Park travel grant scheme for schools and groups

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park has launched a new pilot scheme to help schools and outreach groups experience the great outdoors in the Park by offering an Educational Travel Grant. With forests to explore, landscapes to walk and climb, lochs and rivers to sail on and rich wildlife and history to discover, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park provides the perfect outdoor classroom for schools and groups.

Funds will be provided for up to 75% of total transport costs. This includes transport to and from schools or a group’s meeting place to the National Park and the costs of accessing Inchcailloch island for outdoor learning activities.
