Families Connect is an evidence-based programme, developed by Save the Children UK, to support parents to engage in their children’s learning. It builds upon parents’ existing skills and knowledge, providing them with the confidence to support their child’s learning in the home. Families Connect fosters relationships between parents and school, and provides opportunities for parents to share their parenting experiences with others. The programme aims to raise the attainment of children aged three to six by improving their confidence, communication, literacy, numeracy, and social and emotional skills. In St. Patrick’s, we aimed these sessions at our Primary 1 families who reported very positive experiences with the programme, and strengthened relationships with their child and school.

Newspaper Team
We are working to develop St. Pat’s Post- a newspaper produced each term with some news around the school from the previous term. We are developing crucial skills in communication, leadership and creativity. Our team involves children from P1 to P7, working collaboratively on a project they are passionate about.

World Book Day
As part of our drive to promote pupil interest in reading, the school is celebrating WORLD BOOK day on Thursday 4th March.
On this special day, children who attend school can come in dressed as their favourite author or character from a book using materials/clothing you already have available at home. If your child is learning from home, it would be wonderful if they could still dress up and upload a picture to their SeeSaw or Showbie. They could even read aloud and record their favourite story for the class to listen to.
Next week, the children will be participating in lots of exciting activities with their class, whether they are in school or working from home, in preparation for World Book Day.
Reading different books every day, in preparation for World Book Day would be a great activity to do together. There is an exciting SHARE A STORY FOR 10 MINUTES TODAY campaign to get everyone sharing stories from breakfast to bedtime on World Book Day and the week leading up to it. Reading with your child can have long-lasting benefits for their future and, because we know how busy you are, the great news is that reading together for JUST 10 MINUTES a day can make all the difference. Here are some fun and easy ways to join in:
- Find 10 minutes to read with your child. It doesn’t just have to happen at bedtime – reading and sharing stories can happen anywhere at any time.
• Help your child choose their FREE World Book Day book with their £1 book token by visiting your local bookshop when they reopen or using it towards an audio book.
• Find out more about World Book Day’s Share a Story Campaign at https://www.worldbookday.com/reading-stars/
It’s not just books that you can enjoy together: comics, magazines, recipes, menus, your favourite websites – anything with words that you can read together counts towards your total!
Thank you for your continued support.
