Saint Maria Goretti Primary

Promoting Positive Behaviour

In St Maria Goretti we have involved pupils in the development of school and class rules. Each teacher develops with the pupils, a list of rules/expectations for the classroom which should be referred to regularly and as necessary. These rules/expectations should be clearly displayed in each class along with our school rules.

These are:

Golden Rules

  • We listen to people, we don’t interrupt.
  • We are honest, we don’t cover up the truth.
  • We are kind and helpful, we don’t hurt anybody’s feelings.
  • We are gentle, we don’t hurt others.
  • We try to work hard, we don’t waste time.
  • We look after property, we don’t waste or damage things.

Pupils are expected to demonstrate a high standard of behaviour at all times. This is achieved by demonstrating mutual respect and co-operation and a spirit of fairness. A clear, consistent approach to promoting positive behaviour is in operation. A clear understanding should be develop, by both staff and pupils, of behavioural expectations, rewards and sanctions. Working together pupils, parents and all staff have agreed approaches to promoting positive behaviour in St. Maria Goretti primary school.

A range of strategies are used throughout the school with an agreed framework of rewards and sanctions. Incidents are dealt with using restorative approaches and pupils are asked to reflect on their behaviour and the effects their actions have on others around them.
