STARTING SCHOOL

Starting school at the age of 4 years 6 months or 5 years is an important event for each child and their family, and in school we make every effort to ensure that it is an untroubled and smooth beginning to SCHOOL LIFE. (Primary 1 children are dismissed at lunchtime until the first Monday in September after which they will remain in school until 3pm)

ENROLMENT

In November and January the Local Authority places an advert in national newspapers instructing parents to register their child for education at their local school. Prospective parents are welcome to visit our school and should contact the school office.

Families outwith the catchment area are welcome to make a placing request to attend St Maria Goretti Primary School but they must enrol their child at their local school as a first step. Placing requests should be sent immediately to the School Business Manager, who will indicate his/her decision to parents/carers. Further information is available by clicking here.

PRE-ENTRANT PROGRAMME

This school offers a pre-entrant programme to PARENTS AND NEW ENTRANTS.

This is usually in May and consists of 1 or 2 afternoons in which the children meet each other, the teachers, and are able to make themselves familiar with the school. Parents have the chance to meet with the teachers, find out what will happen when school starts, ask questions and discuss any issues.
