St Albert's Primary 6/7 2017

24 reasons to make Mrs Brightman smile!

Term 2

Term 2 at St. Albert’s means EXPRESSIVE ARTS is the focus for the whole school.

Arts

In P6/7, we are so lucky to be having some specialist lessons from Mrs Patti and Mr McCormack on musical composition and samba! We will be writing our own songs and recording a CD before Christmas – amazing! We hope to perform some of the pieces we have learned in our class assembly on December 7th.

Languages and Literacy

In literacy this term, we will be improving our comparing skills by looking at two famous novels that have been made into films. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was written in 1997 (20 years ago) and we’ll be reading and watching some sections of this around Hallowe’en. After that, we’ll be studying Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – written in 1843 (174 years ago!). This classic novella (short novel) has been made into many cartoon and film versions as well as a BBC Schools Radio production. We’ll be looking at why it has stayed so popular and deciding which we think is the best interpretation! It’s a story set at Christmastime too so that will be seasonal!

In French we are learning more ways to build sentences. We’ll be looking at the celebrations the French have during the autumn and winter too!

Mathematics

In numeracy, we are revisiting the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) before learning more about how money and finance works. This will include understanding bank accounts, overdrafts and budgeting. We’ll need all these skills to help us with our social enterprise project for the school Christmas Fayre on December 8th.

Health and Wellbeing

Our Health and Wellbeing topics for this term will be substance misuse and hidden sugars. We will also be completing the relevant section of God’s Loving Plan, our relationships programme. In P.E., Miss Bull is teaching us hockey skills and Mrs. Brightman is focusing on hand eye co-ordination to improve our throwing, catching, aim and (eventually) racket skills!

Technology

We’ll be continuing our cookery sessions throughout the term starting with the wonder of the pumpkin – did you know it can be sweet or savoury?

Mr. Stewart will also be teaching us some digital literacy skills – particularly on how to manipulate data using software to create graphs and charts.
