Apple and Vanilla Tart

This morning the children used the apples they picked during outdoor learning to make an apple tart.Ā  They showed great hand washing skills before preparing the ingredients, cutting apples and finishing off the tart. It smells delicious, we are going to have a slice before lunch.

Mrs Dunnet is very proud of their great listening skills and ability to follow instructions.

Berry picking

On Wednesday Primary 3 went berry picking around the school grounds.Ā  They found lots of blackberries and they are going to make blackberry jam.Ā  They will use their ICT skills to search for a recipe, literacy skills to write a shopping list, numeracy skills to weigh the ingredients and they will be working together to cook the jam.

Risk Assessment and activities

P3 carried out a risk assessment on the Veg/Herb Plot area before they carried out their tasks. They identified some things which could be dangerous and gave solutions to stay safe around them.

Risk Assessment
There’s a wasp in Mrs Dunnet’s shoe!

John and Ahmed identified low hanging branches as a hazard. Watch you don’t bump your head!
Fatima and Bashayer identified these spikey plants as a hazard.
The children used their 5 senses to identify objects in the outdoor area.
John picked some apples for the class to cook.

Outdoor learning

On Friday P3 enjoyed some fun learning in the school grounds. Some children were risk assessing and Ā litter picking to make the area safe. Others were working together to make ‘cakes’ and ‘soup’ in the mud kitchen. Ā There was even time to unfold the tarpaulin and roll down the hill. They showed great team work and problem solving when they were setting up the tarpaulin to ensure it stayed in place safely.

P3 are continuing to develop their knowledge of sorting in numeracy. This activity allowed the children to sort various items into whichever order they liked. They then had to talk about why they had chosen that particular order. A fun way of learning and talking!
