Weekly Learning Update

This week we have been busy expanding our knowledge of the planets in our solar system, learning about what makes each one unique, and beginning to create our own paper mâché planets to bring our space topic to life.

In writing, we continued to develop our setting descriptions by using adjectives to describe what we see and adding more detail to our sentences.

In phonics, we focussed on the “oi” sound, exploring it in different words and using it in our reading and writing activities.

The children have shown great enthusiasm in all areas of their learning and we are excited to continue our space adventures next week.

A Fun Week!

This week in class has been full of creativity and learning! For Halloween, we made some fantastic skeleton art using straws – the children were very imaginative with their designs.

In phonics, we focused on the “ue” sound and practised writing sentences, helping the children apply their learning in context.

In maths, we continued to work on adding and subtracting using tens and ones, building our confidence with numbers. A big thank you to all the parents who came along to our Maths Open Afternoon.

We also had lots of fun at our Halloween disco on Wednesday, enjoying the music, dancing, and festive celebrations together.

What a busy and exciting week!

Beatson Santa Dash 2025 – Help Us Reach Our Target

Two years ago, our school community came together to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity. Cancer impacts countless lives in different ways, and the Beatson continues to make an incredible difference through its compassionate care and unwavering support.

The Beatson Cancer Charity works alongside the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre – one of the leading cancer care facilities in the UK – providing vital funding for specialist staff, innovative research, and improved patient wellbeing. From emotional support and complementary therapies to cutting-edge treatments and clinical excellence, the charity ensures that patients and their families receive the best possible care at every stage of their journey.

We are proud to continue supporting the Beatson and the life-changing work they do for so many across Scotland.

This year, some of our amazing staff will be taking part in the Glasgow Santa Dash 2025 with Beatson Cancer Charity on Sunday the 7th December at Glasgow Green. Please help us to raise our fundraising target by donating to our Just Giving fundraising page. Click on the link below to access –

A Great Week!

This week in our class, we have been very busy and creative!

In writing, we wrote about the story of The Enormous Turnip. We enjoyed retelling the tale in our own words and describing all the characters who helped to pull out the giant turnip!

In maths, we continued to work on adding using concrete materials. Everyone has been practising really well and showing great understanding when combining numbers together.

We also did amazing at our Harvest Show! We sang, danced, and acted beautifully on stage — well done to everyone for their hard work and confidence.

In technology, we went outside to take photographs and then used them to create beautiful autumn scenes. Our work looks fantastic and really shows the colours of the season.

What a wonderful week of learning and creativity!

This Week in P2b

We have had another busy and exciting week of learning!

In Numeracy, we have been learning how to use part-whole models. These help us understand how numbers can be split into different parts and put back together again. The children have been practising with different examples and are beginning to see how this helps with addition.

As part of our Harvest festival show, the children got creative and made colourful fruits and vegetables for our display. We also worked together to make fantastic scarecrows, which are now brightening up our classroom and helping us get ready for our Harvest festival.

In Writing, we focused on recounting the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children thought carefully about the order of events and practised using sequencing words such as first, next, then, and finally. This helped them to structure their recounts and retell the story in their own words.

Well done to all the children for their hard work and creativity this week – we are very proud of them! A big thank you also to parents for supporting homework at home and for helping the children practise their Harvest festival lines – it makes a real difference.

Show Practise

P2 are in full swing with their show practise. Their lines have been glued into their homework jotters. If they could look these over each night that would be great. They are also learning 3 songs which can be found on youtube. It would be wonderful if they could practise these a couple of times a week.

The song titles are as follows –  Harvest time

Autumn Leaves

Cauliflower Fluffy

This Week in 2b

We’ve had a busy and exciting week of learning!

In writing, we described Grandma from George’s Marvellous Medicine. The children thought carefully about her personality and appearance, and created some fantastic descriptions full of detail and imagination.

We have been getting ready for our Harvest Festival by making harvesting scarecrows. The children enjoyed being creative and mixing paint to create their scarecrow face.

In numeracy, we have continued to work on place value in 2-digit numbers. The children are learning how to partition numbers into tens and ones and are becoming more confident with understanding how numbers are made.

It’s been a wonderful week full of creativity, teamwork, and number learning!

A reminder that children will receive their homework on Monday which should be handed in on Thursday. However, please ensure that they bring their reading books to school each day.

An Exciting Week in P2b

This week in writing, we have been working hard on describing Alice from Alice in Wonderland. The children enjoyed describing her dress and her beautiful long hair. After finishing their writing, they also completed spelling tasks to practise key words.

In the playroom, the children have been using their imagination to build incredible superhero houses. We’ve been talking about superheroes and discussing what we would do if we had superpowers—it led to some very creative ideas!

In French, we learned the colours of the rainbow, and in numeracy and maths, we have been focusing on place value, making numbers from tens and ones, and learning the names of 3D shapes.

A big thank you to everyone who handed in homework this week. New homework will be provided on Monday.

Finally, a gentle reminder that children should not bring toys to school as they can cause distractions during learning time.

Welcome to Primary 2b!

This week we had a special treat- the children enjoyed watching a fun, lively performance of Alice in Wonderland, and they loved it!

Back in class, we discussed the performance and the character. We all loved the White Rabbit so much we decided to write about him.

We came up with ideas and wrote some sentences to describe the White Rabbit.
