Course Outline

This year, the course consists of 4 examined elements which are outlined below. There is an expectation that you will practice in your own time, giving us more class time to cover essential theory and understanding.

Performing: 2 exams

You will perform for a total of 12 minutes on two instruments. The minimum is 4 minutes on one instrument. Your final exam for this will take place in February/March 2020 but programmes should be nearly complete by the Christmas holidays

Understanding: 1 exam

Just like N5 you will sit an Understanding Music paper in late April/early May 2020. This paper is heavily weighted on your knowledge on musical literacy and ability to understand what you are listening to – make sure you are revising and handing in homework when it is asked for!

Composing: 1 Piece +  Review

Again, like N5 you have to compose a piece of music, this time with more mandatory elements. You must keep a detailed account of what you do. Again, there will be hand in deadlines throughout the year for you to stick to. Make use of these as they will provide you with essential feedback to help you succeed.
