Course Outline

This year, the course consists of 5 examined elements which are outlined below. There is an expectation that you will practice more in your own time, giving us more class time to cover essential theory and understanding.

Performing: 2 exams

You will perform for a total of 18 minutes on two instruments. The minimum is 6 minutes on one instrument. Your final exam for this will take place in May 2020 which gives you slightly more time than you had to complete your Higher

Understanding: 1 exam

Just like higher you will sit an Understanding Music paper in late April/early May 2020. This paper is heavily weighted on your knowledge on musical literacy and ability to understand what you are listening to – make sure you are revising and handing in homework when it is asked for!

Composing: 1 Piece +  Review and 1 Analysis

Again, like Higher you have to compose a piece of music, this time with all of the 5 elements you have chosen from before. This year, you also have to do an analysis of another piece of music as well as write about your own.

Use this page to find resources and additional help during study time at home. This is going to be your best musical year yet so embrace it and work hard!
