Schools Baton Relays

With the Schools Baton Launch now complete, every learning community has its own baton. Each baton has been crafted from the same tree used to create the King’s Baton, 74 were originally made for the Commonwealth Games, with a further 30 produced for Glasgow.

The batons will now travel within each learning community, involving early years settings, primary schools, and secondary schools. The Active Schools team are playing a key role in organising the celebratory events and coordinating the baton’s journey between establishments.

Some schools have come together to experience the baton collectively, while others have welcomed it directly into their own school. A wide range of events are planned across the city to celebrate the movement of the 30 batons through the learning communities.

Schools have also been twinned with Commonwealth countries and territories, proudly displaying flags to represent their partners, something that has been showcased throughout the baton relay.

A few examples of these celebratory events are outlined below.
