History Film Club

We have just finished watching The Help which highlights the inequalities experienced by some in America around the time of the Civil Rights Movement with many more films still to come…

Amy said: “I really liked The Help. I think it was a real eye opener to me about the way white people treated black people. I didn’t realise that the black people had to use a different toilet. What happened was a black guy had just got shot and on the bus the bus driver kicked all the black people off the bus and he kept the white people on to keep them safe”

S2 Geography Trip to Dynamic Earth

On Wednesday 16th November, Mr Ward (along with two noble volunteers Miss Mearns and Mr Shields) took the first of two annual trips to the “Our Dynamic Earth” centre in Edinburgh. 30 S2 pupils enjoyed the various presentations about how our planet was formed, shaped and evolved along with the environmentally important message of sustaining life on our planet for all into the future. The pupils were a superb example to themselves and our school – if you are in the Geography after the Xmas break then look out for the next trip!

Lowmoss Prison

As part of our Modern Studies National 5 course, around 40 pupils and 4 staff visited HMP Lowmoss in Bishopbriggs. We have been learning about Crime and Law within Britain and investigating the causes of crime, how these crimes are punished such as prisons and alternatives. To aid the pupils understanding we met with some prisoners who each had their own story to tell. We also gained insight into what prison life was really like and what prisons had to offer in order to rehabilitate offenders. Some reviews from pupils to follow below…

“I liked that we could hear about their story and that we got to find out what made them turn to crime”

“It was more relaxed than I thought but security was quite strange, there’s cameras everywhere and you’re only allowed one door open at a time.”

“There is lots of stuff available in Lowmoss to help rehabiliate like they all get jobs and can get an education and stuff to help them when they get out.”
