Access to Digital Learning

As you may know, Glasgow City Council have been working hard to ensure that Digital access for all children in the city is improved. All schools (Primary and Secondary) have been involved in a Digital rollout equipping pupils from P7-S6 with their own iPad.

Children from P1-P6 will have shared iPads with all classrooms being updated with Apple TVs to support use. Wi-Fi has been installed in the building for the managed iPads and teachers are focussing on Digital Learning through our School Improvement Plan.

As we move into the winter period, we are developing a contingency plan to adopt should children need to be at home self – isolating. In order for learning to continue we anticipate using digital technology as part of home learning. Part of our plan is to gather information about the technology and connectivity that is available for children at home.

Please respond to the texts the office have sent today to allow us to get an accurate picture of access available to our children. From the data we gathered during school closure we understand that many families do not have Wi-Fi and devices at home. We are now looking for data specific to each family, regarding Wi-Fi and device access within homes, to ensure we can support our learners in the best way possible.

Please note there is no expectation that children will have a device or Wi-Fi at home. The data is being gathered to allow us to build an accurate picture of how to support our children if they need to learn at home for an extended period.
