What is Career Education?
Career Education is –
- developing career management skills
- learning about the world of work
- an integral part of your child’s learning
What are Career Management Skills?
Career Management Skills are gained when children and young people –
- learn about themselves, their interests, strengths and personal qualities
- gather knowledge gradually about the world of work
- find out about work sectors, enterprise and business
- understand how skills, both personal and practical, are used in the workplace
Career Management Skills enable young people to –
- make informed and confident choices about their next steps
- develop resilience when faced with challenges
- problem-solve and think strategically
- be successful career planners throughout their working lives
At Hillington Primary we aim through contextualised learning, Enterprise and our World of Work focus week to raise children’s aspirations about the opportunities they have available to them in the world of work in their local area and beyond whilst developing innovative and creative skills.
We aim to develop an awareness of a variety of career choices, demonstrate the links between skills learned at school and success later in life, develop a deeper understanding of why people earn and save money and develop a sense of responsibility and skills for co-operation, enterprise and problem solving.
Our World of Work week this year will take place in March. Every class from P1-P7 will be involved. They will be involved in a range of exciting lessons and visitors coming to talk about their chosen professions. There will also be an opportunity for parents to get involved.
