Mathematics

Data Handling

Good morning primary 3! We have made it to Thursday. Well done for all of your hard work so far!

This morning we will start with some mental maths again. You have two choices. If you feel like it, you can do both.

Topmarks – Daily Ten (link below). You can choose the area of maths that you want to focus on from the options in the game. When you are in the game, select level 2 (this is the one we have been using in school) and then choose the type of sums you want to answer from the next columns.

Daily 10 – Mental Maths Challenge – Topmarks

OR

Practice your times tables. You might choose to write the sums and answers only or you could use one of the strategies from earlier in the week to help you.

Once you have completed some mental maths it will be time to look at our Data Handling lesson for today.

There is another presentation (Bar Charts) for you to watch today that will give you all the information you need to know in order to complete your maths tasks.

After watching the presentation you should complete the following task:

Squares and Triangles

Workbook p 36

Circles

P5a Maths Thursday 14th January 2021

Good morning, P5. Today we are continuing with our learning on perimeter. Remember, perimeter is the distance around a 2D shape. To calculate the perimeter of a shape, you add up the lengths of all the sides. Don’t forget to use the correct unit of measurement.

The Rubies and The Sapphires will be working on the same task. If you are in these groups, you will need a ruler for question 2, as you are no longer given the measurements. You will need to use a ruler and carefully hold it up to the screen to measure the length of the sides of the shapes. Remember, you don’t always need to measure every side, as many of the shapes shown will have equal sides. For example, with the square, you will only need to measure 1 side and then multiply this by 4, as all sides are equal. Your challenge is then to find 4 objects at home and estimate the perimeter of each. We worked on estimating on Monday, so if you need a recap on this you can go back and look at our work from that day. Then, you need to pick a suitable measuring device and accurately calculate the perimeter.

The Emeralds will be working on a different task. Today, you will not be using the grid lines/squares to help you find the perimeter. You should add up the lengths of each side of the shape shown to calculate the perimeter.

If you get this finished before the time given, feel free to practise your times tables or access Sumdog or TopMarks.

If you have any questions, let me know. Enjoy!

Thursday 14th January 2021

9.00am – Mindfulness

We are going to start out learning off today with some Mindfulness activities. Follow the steps in the activities below. If you cannot join in for some reason do not worry.

Activity 1

PATHS Feelings Check In –In school we do an emotional check in each morning and at other times throughout the day. Using the comfortable and uncomfortable feelings face attachments below think about how you are feeling today. Are you experiencing a comfortable or uncomfortable feeling? Talk someone else in your home about how you are feeling. Ask them how they are feeling. If you have nobody to talk to write about how you a are feeling. It is good to share our feeling and emotions. Not talking about them is not for our health.

Cosmic Yoga – Yoga is a great way to help our body and minds to relax and prepare for the day ahead. Click on the link below to take part in today’s Cosmic Yoga class.

Activity 3Positive Affirmations – Affirmations are positive statements that help to motivate us and make us happy. Today’s #positiveaffirmation at Hillington Primary is –

I can. I will. End of story.

Never doubt yourself. Determination will help you to succeed.

Can you create your own positive affirmation for the day. If you can, share it with us by asking a grown up to tweet it for you. Remember to @HillingtonPS and #positiveaffirmation
