Literacy

Phonics

As there is no live lesson today, I have uploaded a spelling list and some spelling activities that you can have a go at this morning before completing your reading task. The spelling activities are on here in a picture. They are activities that we have done in class before – I have done a couple of examples for you to show you what each task is.

Reading

Today’s literacy focus will be on reading again. I have made some questions for you based on what you have read of The Magic Finger so far.

The first thing that you need to do is watch the PowerPoint Presentation called “The Magic Finger Comprehension Intro”. This will explain what we are learning and what you should do in your task today.

Green and Blue group

Once you have watched that you will be ready to complete your task. You will find these below. To make sure you answer the correct questions, look for your groups name in the title.

Red group

You can do some more revision on the sounds that we have been doing so far this year. If you would like an extra challenge, you can try to use the words from your worksheet in a sentence. You will find your work below – Red Phonics Task.

Mathematics

Chilli

Good morning primary 3! We have made it to Friday. Just today to go and then you can enjoy your weekend. Hopefully you get a chance to go out and play in the snow (if there is any left!).

I just want to say a massive well done to you all for working so hard throughout the week. You have made us very proud. I am sad that I will not get a chance to see you for a check in today but I look forward to seeing you all again next week.

There will be no mental maths today. Instead we are going to do a new type of task – a chilli challenge. This will give you the chance to choose the activities you do based on the learning we have done this week in maths.

Squares and Triangles – you should aim to do at least 2 of the challenges.

Circles – you may wish to choose to do just one challenge.

If you open the file at the bottom of this post, it will explain what you have to do. Enjoy!

Good morning Primary 3, I hope you are all ok this morning! Below you will find your Maths tasks for this morning.

All Groups

First let’s warm up with some mental maths:

Select a target number. You should then see how many addition, subtraction or multiplication sums you can think of that have the target number as their answer. For example: my target number is 25 so I could have 19+6=25   35-10=25   5×5=25.

OR

Click on the link to access the Top Marks fame called Daily 10. Choose Level 2 and then the area of Maths that you want to challenge yourself on.

In your jotter, ask a grown up to split your page into 4 boxes. Two at the top and 2 at the bottom.
In the first box draw a picture of something that starts with b and write the word underneath. In the second box something starting with j, in the third box something starting with g. In the last box choose your own sound.
On the next page write a sentence about one of your pictures.

Extension- write two more sentences about your picture.

Or write a sentence about each picture.
I look forward to seeing your work in our check in!

Numeracy task- Thursday 14th January

Remember we were looking at 3-d shapes before Christmas.

Cones, cubes, cuboids  and cylinders.
Can you look around your home and find things that are these shapes.
You can also take a look if you go out on a walk too.

Think about these questions-

What shape are tins of food and cereal boxes?
Look at the faces on the shapes. How many faces can you see?
What shape are the faces? Are they flat are curved?
Can the 3-d shape roll?
You can tell me what you found out in our live check in!

P5a Literacy – Thursday 14th January 2021

Thursday 14th January 2021 – Literacy: 11.10 – 12.10

We are working on our persuasive writing skills today. We learned about this towards the end of term 2, so this should not be brand new to you. I would like you to think about what you already know about persuasive writing, then read through the PowerPoint I have attached below. This will remind you of the different features and language used in persuasive writing.

Once you have read through the PowerPoint, you will write a persuasive letter about a bad situation a Disney character has found themselves in. You will need to work hard to convince the reader to change their mind and help the character.

The Blyton’s and Wilson’s will be writing about Nemo. The Dahl’s and Morpurgo’s will pick between Cinderella OR Robin Hood. Make sure you open the correct file for your group. When writing, remember to refer back to your success criteria and word bank to help you.

I can’t wait to hear your letters during our check in. I would love it if you brought them back to school with you when we can return.

Good luck and enjoy!

Activity 1 – Letter formation

Use your purple sounds jotter to revise your single sounds that you have learned so far.

Activity 2 – Read spelling words

Practice reading your spelling words inside your purple jotter. Say the word and then tell an adult a sentence using that word.
