Everybody

Have a look at Pic 1 and Pic 2 beneath. Read the guide/reminder for how to do DIACRITICAL MARKING. You have done this before! It’s very like Elkonin boxes. Have a try at working out how many sounds are in the following words.
Baboon. Shook. Parachute. Mute. Chew. Rescue. Statue. Unicorn

Handwriting. Watch my wee video below and try to follow me carefully. You should have lined paper if possible, a sharp pencil and be sitting comfortably.
Try to do each join at least 8 times as beautifully as you can.

Diary. Can you write a paragraph or two about your weekend? Remember to be as descriptive as you can and to include feelings and thoughts too. You could draw a picture to go with this.

Monday 18th January – Numeracy

Everyone watch the above You Tube video link below. This is a simple reminder of how we tell the time. It might be worth watching again this week if you find yourself becoming a bit stuck.

Triangles

‘Pic 1’ 12 hour time. Write each time of the four times in three different ways, analogue (draw a clock face for this one) digital and written out in words.

‘Pic 2’ Using the words ‘past’ and ‘to’ to describe the time. Follow the path and write each time shown in two ways, as shown in the example in a).

Squares

‘Pic 3’ Work with an adult as your partner and write at least ten important dater down from the calendar. Remember to state the day, the date and the month.
Example…
‘On Tuesday the 12th of November it is Ms Cameron’s birthday.’ [😉]

keep a note today of the different times you do things, such as start your maths activities, have your live lesson, have your lunch etc. You could illustrate this. Use digital OR analogue.

Circles

With an adult, can you check that you understand what o’clock and half past look like on an analogue clock?
Write down your two times table and say it as quickly as you can.
Please look back t last week’s tasks and catch up if you missed them. (On the calendar)

P3 – 5/4 Science Experiment

The children in the P3-P5/4 class in school took part in a science experiment this afternoon.

It was called “Dancing Raisins”.

We had to get some fizzy water and some still water. Then we had to get some raisins. After that we put the raisins in the cups of water gently to see if they would float or sink.

The raisin in the still water sank to the bottom. However, the raisin in the fizzy water floated after a while. They moved around at the bottom of the cup too and they looked like they were dancing.

We had lots of fun watching and waiting to see what would happen.

Maybe you could have a go at home and see for yourself.

This morning for Maths I have attached a sheet called Primary 3 Friday Chilli Challenge. Just like when we do chilli challenges in class you can choose which chilli you start on, but I would like you to try and complete at least 2 of the chillies. There will also be a Sumdog challenge that covers the work we have been doing this week as well.

OH – please complete the worksheet called addition within 10. I have also set up a Sumdog challenge for you focusing on the work we have been doing this week.

P5a Literacy – Friday 15th January 2021

For literacy today, I would like you to write a reflective piece of writing. In your writing, I want you to think back to the events of this week. What happened? How did you feel? Why did you feel like this? What did you learn about? This will be a recount of your first week of home learning in lockdown. As it is a recount, you should include an opener with the 5 W’s, write in chronological order, use time openers (firstly, then, next, after, finally) and finish with a closing statement to sum up your week, explaining how you have felt. Remember to use paragraphs and the correct punctuation please. Challenge yourself to use interesting vocabulary.

Recount writing is not new to you, so you should be aware of the features and purpose already. I have attached a recount writing poster to refresh your memory. Before you write your recount, please take time to plan what you are going to write. All groups will use the same planning sheet to help plan their writing. Enjoy!
