P1a Literacy task – Monday 18th January

Monday 18th January 2021

Literacy Task – 11.10am-12.10pm

In our Literacy Live lesson we learned a new sound – y

Practice saying the new sound and doing the action for this sound – pretending to eat a yogurt.

Task 1

Ask an adult to draw a big ‘y’ in your jotter. Use objects you have in your home such as pasta, stones, lego blocks, marbles or coins to lay on top of your sound.

Task 2

Ask an adult to draw 4 lines in your jotter. Write 6 ‘Y’ on the top line, 6 ‘y’ on the second line, then repeat for lines 3 and 4. Remember to use finger spaces between each letter. At that bottom of your page, draw 2 or 3 objects beginning with Y. Ask an adult for help to write the name beside each picture.

Task 3

Today is National ‘Winnie the Pooh’ day. Celebrate by listening to the following story or draw a picture of your favourite character.

P1a Numeracy Task – Monday 18th January

Monday 18th January 2021

Numeracy Task – 9.30-10.15am

Activity 1

This week we are participating in Glasgow’s Sumdog Maths Contest. Please log into sumdog for 15 minutes each day. The skills you will focus on will be skills chosen by sumdog for you to work on. Good luck in the contest!

Activity 2

We have been revising 3D shapes including, cubes, cuboids, cones, cylinders, spheres and square-based pyramids.

Using some 3D shape objects from around your house, build an object of your choice. This could be a robot, monster or rocket. You could use building blocks, boxes, tubes or tins. When you have finished making your design, tell an adult what 3D shapes you used and how many. Describe the shapes to an adult using the words ‘faces’, ‘corners’ and ‘edges’. If you are unable to build an object, you could try drawing one instead. Remember to talk about what 3D shapes you have used.

I look forward to hearing about your creative designs at our Live Check in later!

P5a Monday 18th January 2021 – Maths

Good morning, P5. We are learning about area today in maths. The area of a 2D shape is the amount of space it covers. All groups should work through the PowerPoint I have attached below, reading the examples very carefully and having a go at the questions. Then, all children should complete the 2 pages I have attached. The Rubies and Sapphires should complete all questions on both pages, and The Emeralds should complete Q1, all of Q2 and then just Q3 a – c. Write your answers on paper and we will chat about how you all got on in our end of day check in.

P1b Literacy Task – Monday 18th January

Monday 18th January 2021
Literacy Task – 11.10-12.10pm

Use objects you can find around the house to make a giant ‘y’ on a space on the floor. (Remember to tidy everything away neatly after you have done it!)

Get an adult to draw a large ‘y’ in your jotter. Use small objects to place on the letter just like we do at the big table in the classroom. You could use pennies, pasta, marbles, Lego blocks etc. Try this with a couple of  different types of objects.

Get an adult to draw 4 lines in your jotter. Write 6 ‘Y’ on the top line, 6 ‘y’ on the second line, then repeat for lines 3 and 4. Remember to use finger spaces. Underneath, draw the 3 objects that were in my tub during the Live Lesson today. Write the word beside each one, ask an adult to help you with the spelling.

Today is National ‘Winnie the Pooh’ day. To celebrate, get someone to read you a Winnie the Pooh story, watch one on YouTube or draw your favourite character.

P1b Numeracy – Monday 18th January

Numeracy Task – 9.30-10.15am
We are participating in Glasgow’s Maths Contest in Sumdog this week. Please log in for 15mins at the start of your numeracy time each day. You can do longer if you want. The more correct answers we get, the further up the leader board we will climb. Good Luck!

Last week you did some work on 3D shape with Mrs Paterson. Let’s recap. Find an object in your house for each of the 3D shapes we have covered in lessons….cube, cylinder, cuboid, cone(this might be tricky, don’t worry if you can’t find one)and sphere(remember this is the one shaped like a ball we had just introduced). Describe the shapes to an adult using the words ‘faces’, ‘corners’ and ‘edges’.

Using some 3D objects from around the house, see if you can build a monster. You could use empty boxes, cardboard tubes, building blocks, tins(don’t jam your fingers between them!), Lego etc. You could even draw a scary face on a piece of paper and stick it on to your monster. Look at your finished monster and count how many of each shape you used. Bring your monster to the Live Check In this afternoon if you can!
